Kris Allen may have been crowned the winner last night, but Carrie Underwood is still in first place when it comes to paychecks.

According to a new study conducted by Forbes, Carrie is the top American Idol earner of 2009. She’s earned $14 million in the last year alone!

Since her Idol victory in 2005, Carrie’s played over 300 concerts, released two albums, and sold a total of 9.6 million copies and 10.7 million downloads. And on top of that, she’s won her fair share of awards in the country music genre, including Entertainer of the Year at the ACMs.

Coming in second place is Jennifer Hudson, who has done quite well for herself, without even having won Idol! She banked $5 million in the past year, and is just getting back on her feet with a new album after the untimely death of three of her family members.

Original Idol winner Kelly Clarkson is still bringing in the big bucks. She comes in at number three on the list, having made $4.2 million in the past year. Her latest single “All I Ever Wanted” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard earlier this year.

Wonder if Kris Allen will make the top ten next year! Last year’s winner David Cook sure did! He’s made $2 million since winning season 7.

Here are the Forbes’ top ten Idol winners:

1. Carrie Underwood - $14 million
2. Jennifer Hudson - $5 million
3. Kelly Clarkson – $4.2 million
4. Jordin Sparks - $3.1 million
5. Kellie Pickler - $2.3 million
6. Clay Aiken - $2.2 million
7. Chris Daughtry - $2 million
8. David Cook - $2 million
9. David Archuleta - $1.3 million
10. Taylor Hicks - $300,000

In a blog entitled, "On Behalf of My Family and Myself," American Idol star David Cook opened up about the loss of his brother Adam on his Myspace Celebrity page.

As we reported earlier this morning, Cook lost his brother to cancer Saturday afternoon just hours before he made an appearance at the 12th annual Race for Hope 5K in Washington, D.C. Adam had a brain tumor.

Check out David's blog below and feel free to leave your condolences for the Cook family below...

"I wanted to write everyone and say a few things, in light of recent events, to dispel any misinformation that may be circulating and to say thank you on behalf of my family and myself to everyone who has shown even the slightest bit of support to us and our efforts as a family to help eradicate this terrible affliction.

"My brother, Adam, passed away at 11:52pm Eastern, May 2nd. He was 37 years old and leaves behind his wife and two children. We had played Sunfest in West Palm Beach that night, walking off stage at approximately 11:00pm Eastern, and I rushed to get on a plane to fly to Washington D.C., to be a part of the Race For Hope-D.C., a fundraiser for research and development of a cure for brain cancer. I learned of Adam’s passing upon getting to my hotel around 3:00am Eastern.

"I decided to run in the race, despite all of this, for two reasons. First, my brother never wanted his illness to affect others. That was evident in the fact that he wanted his illness to have no part in my experience on Idol, a point he was quite adamant about. So, with that wish in mind, I ran and was involved with the event as an homage to him. Secondly, there are many people who are still battling, and by running and sharing my brother’s story, I hope that it offers those still fighting that much more resolve to not succumb to this wretched disease.

"I want to again thank everyone who donated to the race and continues to donate, sent a kind email, posted thoughts and prayers, called, etc. I take it as affirmation that my brother was the great man that I knew, and whose ideals I constantly try to uphold in myself. It is with those ideals in tow that I vow to continue to speak out in hopes of raising whatever necessary to help eliminate cancer entirely.

"Also, I mentioned earlier that Adam never wanted his illness to affect anyone. So, with the exception of our Toledo, OH, show on May 6th, which we will do everything possible to reschedule, all other shows will go on as scheduled.

"Lastly, thank you to everyone for allowing us, as a family, to grieve and come to terms privately. This event has shown me, beyond doubt, that I have the greatest people in my life, family, friends, and fans alike, and for that, I can never offer enough thanks.

American Idol star David Cook and his family are mourning the loss of his brother Adam after he lost his battle with cancer.

Adam passed away on Saturday, just one day before the 12th annual Race for Hope 5K in Washington, D.C.

"I actually lost my brother yesterday to a brain tumor and I couldn't imagine being anywhere else right now," Cook told the crowd at the benefit for brain cancer research.

During the benefit, he said, "I lost one today," addressing all the runners, supporters and organizers, "but I gained 9,000 [friends] and I will be here every year that they will have me."

Cook served as Grand Marshall and ran with a team that raised $98,000 for brain cancer research.

If you all recall, Adam was flown to Los Angeles when David was competing on American Idol back in April 2008. He was seen sitting front row center.

Our deepest condolences to the family!

You’d think David Cook would be happy that he has enough fans who want to come to his shows, that he wouldn’t get upset by stalker-ish teenage girls who want to come to his hotel room.

But David is a bit perturbed by the recent actions of his female fans, who aren’t giving him the privacy he wants. David wrote on his blog last night, complaining about some of the things that go along with being a musician.

Here’s what he wrote:

Hey everyone,

“First off, I want to say thank you to everyone who has been coming out to the shows since my last post. The vibe at these shows has been amazing.

Secondly, I have to address some behavior that has become disturbing. We pride ourselves on being accessible to you as fans, but in contrast, we do enjoy what little privacy we can muster. To that end, the efforts by some fans to find our hotel rooms, call our hotel rooms, attach things to our bus, etc., is something I have to condemn. This relationship only works when it remains healthy for both parties, and should this behavior continue, the only thing we can do is take more preventative measures to maintain our privacy, which in turn makes us less accessible to you.

I hope this doesn't come off as harsh. I merely want to nip this in the bud so we can continue to have a great experience with all of you at the shows we have coming up. Take care and see you at the next show.

~D”

He needs to get over that fast! Before he knows it, a new American Idol will be crowned and he’ll quickly be forgotten! And don’t think it won’t happen, because it will! So you’d better listen up David Cook fans…no more staple-gunning your panties to his tour bus!

American Idol winner David Cook is ready to tie the knot! Shortly after his win earlier this year, David was linked to former Idol contestant Kimberly Caldwell. And it looks like the love is still there, as he’s been shopping around for engagement rings!

According to Star magazine, David wants to propose to Kimberly over the holidays, and has his sights set on a 2-carat diamond platinum ring from Tiffany’s. A little predictable, we say. But Tiffany’s is timeless, and no girl would say no to that!

But with the little blue box comes a hefty price tag. A 2-carat diamond from Tiffany’s will run David $54,000. The magazine reports, “He’s not used to spending that kind of money on jewelry, so he needs to give it some thought.”

David is smart to sleep on it! He doesn’t want to blow all his money too quickly and then end up like fellow Idol winner Fantasia Barino, whose house just went on foreclosure! David and Kimberly have been dating since May. Should they give it more time? Or should be pop the question over Christmas?
David Cook appeared on The Today Show this morning and addressed his "cougar fans" that have come out of the woodwork since he won Idol.

Katie Couric even chimed in telling him that she told her friend not to be embarrassed for being a Cougar For Cook. Sounds like Katie is one herself!

David Cook really seems like an overall nice and humble guy. He showed his humanitarian side before he was even named this season's winner when he showed up to visit finalist Luke Menard in the hospital.

Luke, who made it to the top 24, was diagnosed with stage two Hodgkin's Lymphoma last week.

The two became close during Idol's Hollywood Week, and David wanted Luke to know he was there for him. He says, "I love Luke and I just wanted to show up and make sure that he understood that I love him and know that if there's anything I can do for him and his wife, sign me up, you know? Any time one of your own is going through something as horrible as that, it makes everything else seem a little bit insignificant.

David went on to say that he's been very aware of cancer in his life since his older brother has been battling it for ten years. He says, "I'm excited to be put in the spotlight where I can hopefully do something to help other people."

Cook's an Idol on and off the stage!
David Cook is probably so relieved he's done with American Idol because he can now start dating. But funny enough, his first lady he went out with over the weekend was from the American Idol pool!

David went out to dinner with Kimberly Caldwell from season two. The two had a good time, and are planning on seeing each other again. If it doesn't work out, David definitely won't have any trouble finding another lady friend.
