David Beckham's U.S. Soccer Debut

August 10, 2007

Hooray! After a frustrating start here in the statesDavid Beckham has finally kicked a ball on the field. The soccer god made his league debut yesterday in Washington D.C.’s RFK stadium. Over 47,000 fans came out to see the soccer player “Bend it like Beckham” but unfortunately no victory as Galaxy lost to D.C. United.

But David was in good spirits to have finally played the field. At a post game press conference he stated, "all the frustration I've had since I arrived at the Galaxy of not being able to train with the players, stepping out and seeing the reaction,"

When asked if he felt pressured by the large audience to take the field Thursday, Beckham replied, "No. I feel pressure in myself to just get back playing and get fit. That's the only pressure I feel."

The highlight of the game was when Beckham took off his shirt and waved to the roaring crowd. Do you feel like Beckham is being noted more for his looks these days than his soccer skills? We all know Beckham is suffering from an injury so was his move to the states a pr stunt to boost soccer sales or are you willing to give Beckham time to heal and start rocking the field? Tell us your thoughts, we want to know.

Hell, if I was him I would just walk around without clothes all the time. I am not complaining a bit when the shirt comes off!

to "shio"..u've gathered those opinions because,i assume, dat u've never watch any football (soccer) game at all b4! coz if u do watch football,if u ever watch one..u'll know that almost all of football players do take their clothes off b4 (to wear their uniforms) and after da game (switching their uniforms with opposite player). n if u do watch Becks play after this,u'll see that all of his looks/acts in the media are way different when he's on the pitch..coz he's a very serious player/footballer!

I haven't watched him play soccer. I do watch him in the media and from that, I have a low opinion of him. He appears to be so self absorbed with his looks and to be an exhibitionist. What's with always taking his clothes off? He also is too effeminate for me. Also, his wife is totally plastic looking and together, they look so phony. I imagine he is completely vacuous. These are all the impressions I've gathered from watching him in the media. If he is truly serious about his soccer career, he should step out of the media spotlight, stop selling perfume, and concentrate on soccer. But I imagine he is too in love with his own body, face, and image to do that.

People started treating him like he's a circus monkey...80% people yesterday cared about him and how he looks, acts etc than the game...come on...separate "Beckham cams" when the game is on?!?!?!?

The big thing after the game, was that he was going to go to one of the bars in DC - lima. It's usually free to get in, but because he was going to be there it was $50 a person. He showed up for literally 5 minutes. I mean - he's hot and all but... really???

Of course it's PR...it's to get more people interested in soccer in the US by adding some serious celebrity status. Beckham's hot, interesting but not wacked out like most other celebs, so he's perfect! Still, he can contribute alot to the soccer, but it does seem overshadowed by his being a celebrity. Whatever the case, I love it! BECKHAM RULES!

i am a beckham fan but felt ripped off that i paid 200 dollars for nosebleed seats to see him tumble for 2 seconds at his first game in la. I htink it is definitely a pr stunt to sell tickets.
