Thousands of little kids in the U.K. got promotional fliers with a surprise on them: Victoria Beckham in her underwear.
Supermarket giant Sainsubry’s sent 47,000 schools and community groups in the U.K. promotional posters featuring David Beckham promoting sports equipment. The only problem? David’s racy tattoo of his wife in her bra and underwear was clearly visible.
The ad said: “Whatever your age and ability, there’s loads of equipment and ideas here to inspire you.”
Have you seen Victoria Beckham in her underwear? It’s pretty inspiring. It makes me want to work out, like, forever.
The advertisement was for an exercise campaign, but education leaders were not happy. It’s probably the first time anyone has ever looked at a photo of David Beckham and not been happy.
Sainsbury immediately went under fire, receiving tons of complaints, so they issued a statement.
A spokesperson for the chain said:
"As a world-class athlete and father of four, David Beckham is the perfect ambassador for several of Sainsbury's initiatives which encourage all kids to lead healthier and more active lifestyles. It is never our intention to cause offense and we would like to apologize if this is the case. We will of course take this feedback on board when designing our Active Kids material going forward."
Pre-school leader Anita Deacon said: “We’re not being prudish. We just think it’s inappropriate.”
“The tattoo depicts Posh Spice wearing nothing but underwear and posing provocatively.”
Probably more of a Scary Spice fan.
