Beckham Can't Bend It...Yet

David Beckham

He may be selling tickets for soccer in America but this soccer God may be absent from his first game. Just yesterday David Beckham made it out to his first practice and was limited to some stretching and kicking drills because of a lingering ankle injury.

He is scheduled to make his playing debut Saturday in a game against Chelsea, but Galaxy coach Frank Yallop said the superstar midfielder may not be ready for it just yet. "His ankle is quite swollen." "We're hoping it recovers quickly and he can have some part in the game." This is a major blow to ESPN, which was going to televise the game live using 19 cameras to track only Beckham.

During Beckham's first practice over 1,000 fans attended and watched Beckham try to bend. David was smiling and waving at fans, many of which were chanting his name. But we have a feeling that this guy is already over living in a fishbowl.

Galaxy general manager Alexi Lalas reminded the media that although they want Beckham to play the first game, people need to consider that "this is a human and not a robot." What do you guys think, is Beckham going to be able to deal with all this media scrutiny? This is Hollywood where everything is about "lights, camera and action" and people have no sympathy.

I think he'll handle it fine. Did you ever see any footage of when he went to the far east - that was even madder!

I think Becks will play but his minutes will be limited. Just imagine though if he scored on a free kick.
