First Look: New 'Lincoln' Trailer

Next month, people will turn their attention to politics… Both at the polls and at the movies!

A new trailer for the Abraham Lincoln biopic, titled simply Lincoln, has hit the Internet. The two-minute epic sequence aims to paint a picture of the dynamic and lasting effect that the 16th president had on our nation.

“Can we choose to be born?” asks Daniel Day-Lewis as Lincoln in the trailer. “Or are we fitted to the times we are born into?”

Over the Daniel’s voice – which is deliberately high-pitched for historic accurately – are images of America, starting from present day.

The trailer opens on a helicopter shot of the modern-day Washington, D.C. The image fades to black and white as a slide show of the history of civil rights plays out… Martin Luther King Jr.’s march on Washington… A soldier in Iraq… WWII… Nelson Mandela… Gandhi…

All the way back to the American Civil War that Lincoln was trying desperately to end, which is where the film picks up.

“Shall we stop this bleeding?” Lincoln asks.

The first look at Day-Lewis as Lincoln shows an uncanny interpretation. A true character actor, other familiar faces in the trailer include Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones and Sally Field...

Directed by Stephen Spielberg, the film promises to shine a new light on Lincoln’s life, revealing the struggles and conflicts – from the office to home with his wife - that he faced while trying to turn the free world around and end slavery.

A powerful message, dazzling performances… Do I smell an Oscar?

Find out for yourself... November 16th – tens days after election day – Lincoln steps into theaters.
