Daniel Craig. biography
Daniel Wroughton Craig was born on March 2, 1968, in Chester, England to Tim Craig and Carol Olivia Craig. After his parents divorced in 1972, his mother, who first persuaded Craig to venture into the world of theatre, raised Craig and his old sister in Hoylake, Wirral. At the age of 6, Craig made his performance debut in his school's production of Oliver! and was immediately hooked on the idea of a career in acting. He moved to London as soon as he turned 16 to attend the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and perform with the National Youth Theatre. Ensuing his graduation, Craig landed his first film role in the drama The Power of One (1992).
Craig's career began to flourish with his role in the BBC miniseries Our Friends in the North (1996) in which his performance received critical appraise and the film won two British Academy Television Awards and four Royal Television Society Awards. His momentum continued with roles in Elizabeth (1998) opposite Cate Blanchett and the Francis Bacon biopic Love Is The Devil (1998) as Bacon's lover George Dyer in which Craig refers to as "the first film I did that 'made me.'"
Craig's big-screen debut came in 2001, when he played Angelina Jolie's character's love interest in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Despite the critics' poor appraisal of the film, audiences across the nation embraced the video-game inspired flick, resulting in a No. 1 position at the box office. He then rebounded with a serious role and memorable performance in the crime-thriller Road to Perdition (2002) opposite Tom Hanks, followed by a role in the biopic Sylvia (2003) with Gwyneth Paltrow.
In 2005, Craig made his leading role debut as a mystery, nameless character in the crime-drama Layer Cake and later collaborated with Steven Spielberg in his film Munich. During this time, rumors of Craig becoming the next James Bound was taking over all press coverage, with critics saying he was to much of a serious actor and the public thinking he was too old. Despite the public's disgruntles, Craig attached his name to project and in 2006, Craig proved critics wrong with his modern, more realistic take on Bond and blinding sex appeal in Casino Royale in which he was honored with an Empire Award for Best Actor. The first installment turned into the highest-grossing Bond movie to date, bringing in over $594 million across the world. The following installment, Quantum of Solace (2008) had similar success while Skyfall (2012) is projected to bypass the prior films' profit with ease.
During his time as James Bond, Craig performed in various projects, including the science-fiction thriller The Invasion (2007) opposite Nicole Kidman, the fantasy film The Golden Compass (2007), again with Kidman, the drama Flashbacks of a Fool (2008) and the Holocaust drama Defiance (2008).
Craig's most recent projects include, the horror flick Dream House (2011), the epic animation-action film The Adventures of Tintin (2011), the crime-mystery The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011), the science-fiction western Cowboys & Aliens with Harrison Ford, and Skyfall.
Is Daniel Craig Gay?
Daniel Craig has been the victim of gay humors due to his various gay roles he has taken over the years, however, the most recent news of a "erotically-charged scene" between Craig and Javier Bardem in Skyfall (2012) has raised even more speculations. Apparently, Bardem's character Silva caresses the torso of Bond, but Craig squashed the rumors in an interview with Movieline in which he refers to the scene as "a great flirt" and "a game of cards."
"Someone suggested that Silva may be gay. And I'm like, I think he'll f*** anything."
He went on to say that he "loves the scene... I don't see the world in sexual divisions."
To many, his last comment fueled the existing rumors by blurring the line between sexual orientations and portraying himself as a gay advocate. Majority of people do not give the rumor much merit due to the fact that Craig has a daughter with his ex-wife Fiona Loudon and recently married actress Rachel Weisz in 2012.
