J.R. Martinez Wins Season 13 of Dancing With the Stars

The season finale of Dancing with the Stars aired tonight and it was full of surprises. Ricki Lake was the frontrunner and expected to take the mirror ball trophy home, but in a shocking twist, she was eliminated during the first half of the night.

Ricki emerged as the leader after Monday night’s performances, but apparently viewers didn’t call/text enough votes to save her. It was a shame that she was eliminated because she really was a great dancer. She came a long way this season and went home empty handed. Sad face.

Judge Bruno Tonioli called Ricki’s performance "unforgettable" and Len Goodman said it was "one of the most memorable dances of this or any season," but she couldn't make it to the end. Again, sad face.

After her name was announced, she hugged her partner Derek Hough, while J.R. Martinez and Rob Kardashian looked on surprised. They were even shocked to see her leave. WTF?

"I've loved basically every minute of this," she said. "I really feel like I had the best partner, the best teacher, the best motivator. And I've done something that really didn't think I could do. For someone who's a middle age mom, I hope I made my children proud, my fiancé and my family."

She added, "I really appreciate everyone who voted for me and supported me along the way. This is a fantasy come true."

After Ricki’s elimination Rob and J.R. were left. Who took home the trophy?

J.R. Martinez.

Both teams danced the samba, which they had to choreograph last minute and they both earned perfect scores. Rob actually came out one point ahead after Monday nights scores were added to the finale.

But even his one point lead (and the endless tweets by Kim, Khloe and Kourtney) wasn’t enough to save him. J.R. was named the dancing king of season 13.

J.R.’s partner Karina Smirnoff was so happy to hear his name called she burst into tears and had to cover her face. It’s her first win.

"First and foremost, I want to thank everyone who voted for us for 10 weeks," J.R. said. "Thank you, America, for believing in us."

He then turned to Karina and said, "You are amazing, and I'm so grateful I was able to be a part of your first mirror-ball trophy."

Rob was bummed he didn’t win but was super gracious about it all. "I'm super thankful," he said, as the results were announced. "This is such a crazy experience. I'm definitely not sad. I won in my book."

Were you shocked to see J.R. take the trophy home? Who were you rooting for?
