'Dancing With the Stars' is back, and judges called it the best season premiere ever. But there were no reality stars—how is that possible?
TV host Maria Menounos and Derek Hough kicked things off, and Derek describes her dancing technique as Bambi on ice. I'm not sure if that's a compliment--it's been a while since I've seen the movie--but Maria manages to work the dance floor pretty nicely. The judges advise her to use more "hip action."
Soap star Jack Wagner hit up the dance floor with Anna Trebunskaya. Judges say the dance is "beautifully acted and danced." And he didn't even have sex with her twin sister while she was in a coma. Or, you know, some other soap opera plot.
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver then did the cha cha cha with Peta Murgatroyd. Judges: "You are nothing but charisma and charm!"
Pop singer Gavin DeGraw then takes the dance floor to do the fox trot with Karina Smirnoff. He doesn’t get a stellar review. He sort of stumbles through the dance and the judges declare: "You have to learn to link the moves…you cannot stiffen up at the wrong places."
Disney star Roshon Fegan teams up with Chelsie Hightower. The judges are getting tougher, but Roshon manages to score 23 points.
Next on the dance floor is 'The View' co-host Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy. Judges say she's "fun, fun, fun" and award her with 23 points as well.
Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy then hit up the floor, but yikes, they only manage to rack up a total of 20 points. Maks isn't happy.
Telenovela star William Levy, better known as the "Brad Pitt of Mexico" incites screams from the audience before he even starts the dance. After he does the fox trot, and the audience regains themselves, the judges are pleased.
Tennis star Martina Navratilova is paired up with Tony Dovolani, and while the judges think she looks "so beautiful," they're not terribly impressed with her fox trot.
Opera singer Katherine Jenkins takes the stage with Mark Ballas, and performs what the judges call an "exquisite" routine, earning her 26 points, the highest score of the show so far.
Legendary singer Gladys Knight dances with Tristan MacManus. She knows what she's doing, and the judges proclaim: "You're a star!"
Finally, what we've all been waiting for. Jaleel White, better known as Steve Urkel, but also known as Stefan Urquelle, takes the dance floor with Kym Johnson. He breezes right through the routine, and the judges are pleased. He manages to rack up 26 points, tying Katherine Jenkins for the highest score of the night.
'Season 14' kicked off with a bang…but who will be the first to go home?
