Cynthia Nixon Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

April 15, 2008

After 'Sex and the City' went off the air, the stars of the show (aside from SJP) basically disappeared. While doing promos on Good Morning America, Cynthia Nixon revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago.

"I basically told them they found some cancer in my right breast," Nixon recalled saying. "It's very small and it's very early.

"I'm going to have an operation, they're going to take it out, and then we're going to have six-and-a-half weeks of radiation, every weekday," she went on. "This is what grandma went through, and I'm going to be fine."

She also said that she kept her cancer private because "I didn't want paparazzi at the hospital." Nixon's mother also suffered from breast cancer. For more info on breast cancer, log onto www.breastcancer.org.

Cynthia Nixon is strong and I understand her desire to keep such a personal issue private and within her family. Many celebs choose to make such personal issues public to help others but their people too and their pain and heartaches are not for public consumption. If Cynthia wanted to avoid the photogs snap happy efforts plastering her all over mags and E News, Extras etc then more power to her!

I'm particularly fond of Cyntia Nixon and think that she's a brilliant actor. I hope that she's doing well in beating her Cancer and would like to hear an update. Insofar as keeping her illness 'quiet' because of the media chasing her is a less than laudable excuse for someone so bright and usually empathic. She could have helped a lot of people by letting them know her truth.
