On the set of Jerry Maguire in 1996, Gooding’s father—well, I’ll let Cuba explain:
“He gave Tom Cruise a hug and said, 'I love you man. Now seriously, are you gay or not?'" Gooding, 44, recalled on England's ‘The Graham Norton Show.’ I almost fainted. And I thought, 'Please Lord, let me disappear.’”
And you thought your dad was embarrassing. I mean, I’m not sure why the world is so obsessed with a person’s sexuality in this day in age. I like to think we’re an advanced enough civilization that we don’t need to single people out based on something as frivolous as their same-sex preference.
But…is the guy into dudes or not?
“Tom just laughed and said ‘No,’” Gooding said.
In the interview, Cuba also said he’s tired of people calling him out for the ‘Jerry Maguire’ line: “Show me the money!”
"It doesn’t go away. I get it all the time,” Cuba said. “I wish I had a wand that would make people disappear whenever they say it," Gooding said.
And the worst time to ask Cuba to recite the line:
"It's hard especially when some drunk guy in a bar asks and finally you say it and he says, 'No, say it like you said it in the movie!'"
Note to self: if ever meet Cuba Gooding, Jr., ask him to recite line from ‘Daddy Day Camp’ instead.
