Courtney Love. biography
Courtney Love was born on July 9, 1964, in San Francisco, California and is best known as the widow of Kurt Cobain.
Born Courtney Michelle Harrison, Love first put her vocals and baby doll-inspired fashion on display when she formed the punk trio Sugar Baby Doll with her old friends Bjelland and Jennifer Finch. She would later be kicked of the group by Bjelland and again after forming the band Babes in Toyland in 1987.
After making her acting debut in Sid and Nancy (1986), Love formed the group Hole in 1989, which initially consisted of bassist Jill Emery and drummer Caroline Rue. Their debut album Pretty on the Inside (1991) gained the group immediate attention with the help of its hit single “Teenage Whore.”
Love and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain first got together in 1991, and tied the knot in February the following year. Their infamous relationship was filled with drug abuse and fights, which ultimately helped Love sell a lot of records. Drug use eventually caught up with Cobain, with him committing suicide on April 5, 1994.
That same year, Hole got its big break with their commercial hit album Live Through This (1994). Attempting to deal with the sorrow, Love ran into to more pain when the band’s bassist Kristen Pfaff overdoes on heroin a couple of months later.
After gaining more popularity with the release of the band’s third album Celebrity Skin (1998), Love began venturing out on her own, leading to Hole’s dismemberment in 2002.
Despite going through a drug spell, during which she was arrested multiple times and lost custody of her daughter Frances Bean, Love tried to bounce back with the release of her first solo album America’s Sweetheart (2002).
Aside from music, Love has appeared in several films, including Feeling Minnesota (1996), The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996), 200 Cigarettes (1999), Man on the Moon (1999) and Trapped (2002).
