Scream Director on Courteney-David Split: We Had No Idea

Scream 4 Director Wes Craven has known Courteney Cox and David Arquette for a long time—after all he directed them in the first installment of the film franchise back in 1996.

But Craven claims he didn’t see the split coming, and says he didn’t know the couple was having problems.

"We didn't have any idea that was going on,” Craven told E! Online.

"It's very sad," Craven added. "I just about cried when I heard. It's a wrenching thing to happen to anybody that you love. I wish them both the best."

In happier news, Craven called the set of Scream 4 “a big lovefest. It's kind of embarrassing."
