Corey Haim was laid to rest today in his hometown of Toronto, Canada. Over 200 people showed up to the funeral held at Steeles Memorial Chapel, a Jewish funeral home. Though the event was private, a crowd of fans lined up outside to pay their respects to the 80s teen idol.
Corey Feldman was absent from the funeral, having announced earlier in the week that he wouldn’t be attending. He said he preferred to mourn in Los Angeles, and honor the family’s wishes of keeping it a small and quiet affair.
He said, “I would love nothing more than to be by her side at Corey’s funeral, however due to their strong religious beliefs, and need for privacy, the family has decided to make Corey’s funeral on Tuesday a small, private affair.” Feldman is however planning on hosting a memorial service for his friend next month.
Haim’s second cousin Maytal Kotler told the Toronto Star the service was "very sad but with a lot of laughter."
We’re happy the Haim family was able to give Corey a proper funeral—last week it was reported that a company called Startifacts had stepped to offer to pay for the whole thing, setting them back $20,000.
Rest in peace, Corey!
