Colin Farrell had a relationship he’s never spoken of before. But on his recent visit to Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime talk show he decided to discuss it. The actor revealed that his last love was none other than Elizabeth Taylor.
Elizabeth passed away in 2011 at the age of 79, but about two years prior Colin became very close friends with the screen icon.
“It was kind of like the last, it feels like in my head, not her, I’m projecting, but the last kind of romantic relationship I had, which was never consummated,” Colin said.
The two first met when he ran into her management team at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Colin was there in preparation for the birth of his son and Elizabeth was there for an operation. He told them to wish her well and after that Elizabeth thanked him with a bouquet of flowers and a handwritten note.
Colin then asked if he could meet her, which he soon did, and after that it bloomed into an epic friendship of about a year and a half to two years. They would often have two-in-the-morning phone conversations on account of their mutual insomnia.
“I just adored her,” Colin said. “She was a spectacular, spectacular woman.”
He then added that he wouldn’t have minded being another man on Elizabeth’s notorious string of marriages, “I wanted to be number eight, but we ran out of road.”
Colin attended her funeral where he eulogized the actress with a poem.
