Clay Nation Going Down?

Clay Aiken

Is Clay nation turning on this former American Idol star? Seems like Clay Aiken's diva-like behavior is getting out of control and one fan is pretty pissed off about it. Clay is being accused of booting a 15-year-old boy off of a concert line-up simply because he wasn't festive enough. Maybe the kid wasnt his type?

According to TMZ Joshua Willard had won a North Carolina singing competition, which gave him the chance to perform with the Greensboro Symphony during Clay Aiken's Holiday concert on Saturday. Willard revealed that he had rehearsed his song, Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," and had just finished a soundcheck when managers of the Symphony told him the devastating news that Aiken's camp had decided that he would not be allowed to perform because he was not singing a Christmas song.

Coincidentally other singers who did have holiday songs prepared were also not allowed to sing. Willard was only allowed to lead a 30-second group sing-along; however, Lisa Crawford, CEO of the Greensboro Symphony said that no promises were made that anyone could sing.

Willard revealed to the website that Clay did more stand up comedy than singing and even made multiple refferences to his controversial appearance on "Live with Regis and Kelly. Willard also said that Clay was rude to audience members and told several people to sit down and cover their mouth.

When Willard finally met Clay an hour after the show, he mentioned that the diva was snotty and acted like he was better than his fans. None of the fans were allowed to take individual shots with the singer. What does this one time Aiken fan have to say about all this drama? He could care less about Clay after this point on and wants to try out for the next season of "American Idol," to show the world what a down to earth Idol is really like. Ouch!

Since when do teenie-bopper amateur talent contest winners belong on stage with a symphony orchestra and multi-platinum recording artist?? So, if this had been Beyonce, would the kid have been allowed to sing?? I doubt it. And would it have been reported? I doubt it.
Posted by: GetALife on 12/28/2006 02:44 PM

Totally taken out of proportion. This report was concocted by an unknown reporter in a podunk town and an unknown kid who thinks he can sing to generate media attention for them both. Clay was just a convenient target.
Posted by: Samuel on 12/28/2006 03:15 PM

This whiny brat wanted to sing "Superstition" at a show geared toward nativity hymns, which in such a context could be interpreted as equating faith in Christian theology as superstitious nonsense. This when Aiken never invited these people to share the stage with him to begin with! Willard was the only diva at that concert. Thank goodness I'll never have to hear or see the idiot ever again... unless perhaps he someday busses my table at Denny's.

wow all you gayken fans are such losers. get a life

Slow news day? Sounds like the Greensboro Symphony screwed up and is trying to shift the blame to Clay. My wife and I went to see Clay sing with an orchestra not watch an amateur talent show. Clay sang the same number of songs he did for all the Christmas shows. This sure makes this group look bad, not Clay. The parents of this child need to give him a lecture on reality. How embarassing that an artist from our own state is treated with such disrespect. Sorry Clay!
Posted by: Jim on 12/28/2006 03:30 PM

Holy Shit. This stupid story is so completely distorted, but what do you expect when the gay mafia cranks into high gear.
Posted by: Dave on 12/28/2006 03:33 PM

I'd sure like to get another version of the story from someone else who was there as well. There is usually a whole other side to these stupid stories people post to make Clay look like the bad guy. Just because this kid didn't get his 5 min. in the spotlight, let's blame Clay, he's an easy target! There is always a time limit for these shows, perhaps having this kid and others singing would take time away from Clay's show. I AM 100% sure that there is a "real" version of this story, and I am 100% sure that we will never hear it here!

Clay was NOT rude to audience members. He had everyone rolling in the aisles with his incredible comic timing. He was being snarky and they all knew it. He sang 14 songs. His comedy did not take up more time than his singing. What is happening with journalism?? That is going down the tubes, not Claynation. Yikes. Clay was a solo act during this tour and everyone knew it. That kid was 'told' something he shouldn't of been told by someone NOT in Clay's camp. He is a whiny, snotty baby. Why can't you all get YOUR facts right. Please, people, listen to 2 sides of the story before you condemn anyone, including Clay. That kid had it all wrong and so didn't the reporters.
Posted by: tss on 12/28/2006 03:38 PM

Oh for fuck sakes. Why is this news? The kid thought he was going to be friends with a celebrity and is pissed off that he was treated like the 15 yr old he is. If I paid to see Clay Aiken and a symphony that's who I'd want to see. Joshua, sing for your parents from now on honey.
Posted by: Jasmine on 12/28/2006 03:46 PM

Certain types are always looking to put Clay down, for one trumped up reason or another. I'm sure this is taken out of context. I can't imagine Clay Aiken ever being deliberately mean to a fan. He's a sweetheart who does so much good in the world. Why don't I read more about that?

There are dozens of Clay acting like a diva in the last few years since he came in second on the Idol show. Where there is smoke, there is fire. He always acts like he's the greatest thing on the planet ... grow up Mr. Aiken.
Posted by: buffy on 12/28/2006 04:07 PM

Grow Up Joshua. This was the Clay Aiken Christmas Tour, with Christmas songs. You so chose to sing "Superstition", well that makes a lot of sense. This wasn't your show, and you should be adult enough not to whine about it. Concert goers paid to see Clay Aiken. I would have been disappointed to have Clay's concert cut short, so that you could sing.
Posted by: gkw1944 on 12/28/2006 04:09 PM

I don't know what went on behind the scenes obviously, but I was at this concert, and Clay did nothing different as far as the number of songs he sang or the amount of banter with audience than he did at any other show. Clay was rude to no one in the audience. Everyone who knows Clay's snarky sense of humor knows that he was just teasing with the audience. We were all laughing ourselves silly. He was hysterically funny and we enjoyed it so much. That is half the fun of going to a Clay Aiken concert, being entertained by him through his bantering. He is not just a fantastic singer, but he is also an outstanding entertainer. This boy and another girl did come out and lead a sing along. Another younger girl also sang. They performed during the symphony's time on stage, not Clay's. My assumption is that since this is a symphony show with Clay as the guest artist, it was the symphony's decision to cut the song the boy wanted to sing. And there is no doubt in my mind that Clay was not being rude to this boy. I've met Clay and enjoyed his humor toward me. He means no harm and is just so funny. I loved it myself. For this boy then to make this public is wrong, in my opinion. From someone who was there, the symphony's performance and Clay's performance were both outstanding.

Your poop is so fresh it still STINKS!! Someone made a mistake, promised the boy he could sing at the concert without consulting the people who were doing the concert and Joshua blames it on Clay. Someone in Greensboro overstepped their authority. It is popular to blame Clay your all purpose whipping boy. It was a great concert! Sorry Joshua was disappointed but if he has what it takes his time will come.
Posted by: ann on 12/28/2006 04:21 PM

Maybe he could go sing at a Stevie Wonder concert..since when do amateurs sing at professional concerts where people spend hundreds of dollars for tickets..Im confused...let's continue to bash, easy target Clay Aiken...hoping 2007 will be different..this is getting old!

As a person that attended Clay's concert with the Greensboro Symphony, I see Joshua Willard as a whiny spoiled brat. I did not pay to see an amateur talent show, I bought a ticket with Clay Aiken as the headliner for the show and that is who I went to see and hear. I paid to see a professional and that is what I saw and to see the record straight, the audience very much enjoyed Clay's jokes during the show. Obviously, this whiny teenager does not have a sense of humor! Joshua forgot to mention that Clay graciously agreed for Greer (a beautiful young girl) to sing with the Greensboro Symphony at Clay's concert. Yes, she did sing a Christmas song and was treated like a celebrity by Clay. Joshua also forgot to mention that he did not even know the words to "White Christmas" to lead the audience in singing the song. He had to have a white card with the words on it that he was reading from.

Clay Aiken WHO????
Posted by: 20/20 on 12/28/2006 07:56 PM

Clay mistreating a child. HAHAHAHAHA Clay is gay. HAHAHAHAHA Clay being a bully. HAHAHAHAHA SOUNDS A LOT LIKE THE CLAY HATERS GONE WILD. Anyone who REALLY knows anything about Clay Aiken knows that none of this is the least bit believable. Anyone in doubt ask yourself would a legion of fans continue to follow, support and dearly love a artist who would stand up for children and children's rights and then treat them like these people would have you believe? Would Clay have the support of people in high places who respect him for his devotion and work such as the President of the United States who appointed him to the Committee for Americans with Disabilities, would his College where he graduated with a degree in Special Education name him as the Alumni of the year, would UNICEF name him as an Ambassdor if he was an ass-hole diva who mistreated children? Also, everyone who knows an ounce of truth about Clay also knows that Clay gives up time in EVERY concert to his band and back up singers who he has now made famous becuase he allows them to sing solo songs on his tour. He is a very generous man and no other artist does this for their band members. I just think that people need to start investigating some of the alligations made about Clay Aiken without believing this group of Clay haters who have no life and nothing better to do than run around on boards making stupid, children stories up about this amazing and wonderful human being. God is watching and listening.

Dudes, I'll pay my money to go see whoever I damn well please! And you got nothing to say about it either! HAHAHA Lordy this is all so entertaining...Clay rocks! His name inspires so much passion in people, both lovers and haters! Anybody who can do that is a STAR! Look peeps, everybody calls Clay a diva because they expect him to be some lame southern mama's boy milquetoast! Well, he's not. He's not taking anyone's crap anymore, and that means YOU! HAHAHAHA He's no doormat, so when he stands up for himself, all of a sudden he's a "diva!" That's a HOOT! I hope he always stands up for himself! Kicks butt and takes names! I am so sorry this happened in North Carolina after all this young man has given back to our state and the country in general. He takes time to represent UNICEF, and also to help handicapped children in our area. How dare our news media in High Point and Greensboro look for something negative to report. If this little star- want-to- be had chosen a Christmas song to sing, maybe he would have performed that night. Superstition was not appropriate. Talk about flaming gay; this young man takes the cake. I DON"T care what persuasion either of them are, but Clay Aiken at least has substance and CLASS! Personally, I did not enjoy the symphony, nor the local talent. The acoustics in that auditorium do not do Clay's voice justice. Clay was a complete gentleman and had a great personality for the audience. It was as if he was in our living room and knew us all personally. His sarcastic humor is wonderful and quick. Be yourself Clay. Did no one in the media think to tell us that Clay's mother was present in the audience and went around and personally spoke to handicapped fans in the audience? She is so gracious and approachable and has raised an incredible son. Greensboro, NC does not deserve such a concert if they cannot control the media hype. We are lucky Aiken comes to our city. I have seen him 3 times in this area, and he gives his fans all their money's worth. Thanks for this forum.

This is total SMEAR CAMPAIGN! I was at this show and everything Clay said was said in jest. The crowd loved it and thought he was hillarious. The whole story is here: “Lisa Crawford, CEO of the Greensboro Symphony, told TMZ that the children were NEVER PROMISED they could sing with Clay; “It was HIS tour and show. We were just hired to play.” These are just the few points that have to do with the Triad Idols and the source came from the same Ms. Crawford: ” 7_ We received an e-mail from Community Theater asking if the 2 Triad Idol singers could perform on concert. They had performed with us in October at our education concerts. We checked with promoter and were given the green light to invite them to perform WITH the Symphony not WITH Clay Aiken. 8_ Once rehearsal began, Aiken management asked that we not perform any non-Holiday songs. We only had orchestra charts for the Triad Idols for 2 songs and they were non-Holiday. 9_ We told the 2 Triad Idol singers, we would need to cancel their songs. We still wanted to include them in the concert and we asked Aiken management if they could lead the Christmas Song sing-along. Aiken management was very gracious and said this would be fine along with the little girl singing the Hippo song. When we told the Triad idol singers, they seemed very glad to still be part of the show. Throughout the evening, they did not indicate they were unhappy. 10_ We cannot control what people do in order to gain 15 minutes of fame. We do not believe in feeding a media frenzy over nothing. ” The previous points to this had to do with how the orchestra was to set up their program according to the contract rider, time constraints, etc.

wow you claymates have some serious issues. who cares? move on with your lives
Posted by: Captain Obvious on 12/29/2006 07:28 PM

Poor little Jeff. He is acting like the 15 year old child that he is. Children often see the world from only one perspective, their own. He feels he was slighted and that's his reality. Of course any adult who has been following Clay Aiken through his rise to fame knows that Clay is not a diva. He has given more to better society than many stars do in a lifetime. The natural goodness of his heart and soul is clearly evident. For those who must find fault for whatever reason, they will find it. Words can be twisted, actions can be misinterpreted and judgements made. This seems to be the case here.

People, people, people.... Did you REALLY want to go to a Christmas show with a symphony orchestra and Clay Aiken doing ALL Christmas music and then have a precocious kid sing "Superstition"? Oh puleease! Also, it was NOT Clays decision, it was his management. So shutuppayermouth about this. Next?
Posted by: Sharie on 01/06/2007 08:01 PM

oh come on, give me a BREAK! since when brats are allowed to sing on stage, and since when the media takes their complaining after they've been shoved outside where they belong in the first place? just give me a freakin break with all this criticism going on. if u cant write more accurate articles, then why bother to write at all. and all u Clay haters, get a life! but since u obviously dont have one, can u just try to shut the fuck up?
Posted by: Wendy on 04/13/2007 10:05 PM

I have another question! SINCE when Mr. Clay Aiken has been a teacher? As far as I know he has never been registered as a teacher in his State and never performed this profession! Maybe he couldn't got licenced because of his obvious love inclination to the young boys!!!!!!

Wow, no wonder we have shooting in school with all this hate. We need to work together to make this a better country. What if you lose one of your sons or daughters because someone had enough with the name calling and hate. The country needs to change and it needs to start with each one of us.
