Clay Aiken Blogs About UNICEF

Clay Aiken just got back from the East African countries of Somalia and Kenya doing his part as ambassador for UNICEF, which provides children with health care, education, nutrition, clean water and sanitation.

Ever since Clay realized he was about to be a father, his focus seems to be on the children. His baby with music producer Jaymes Foster is due next month. Here's part of Clay's blog from Africa:

"Getting children back to school is vital for their protection, and helps build a sense of normalcy in their lives. The re-establishment of schools in the most difficult circumstances is a testament to the commitment of UNICEF and to Kenyans. Many displaced parents told UNICEF that getting their children back to school was their top priority.

"Every child has the right to an education. Education transforms lives and breaks the cycle of poverty that so many children are caught in. And an educated child will make sure his or her own children receive an education too. This is just another one of the many amazing ways UNICEF is helping children today, while also building a safer Kenya tomorrow."

Clay has been all about helping disadvantaged children since he was a teenager. He was appointed UNICEF Ambassador of Education for children World Wide in 2004. That was long before this child was on the way.

You are just incredulous with your article about Clay. How ridiculous to say that 'ever since Clay learned he was about to be a father,his focus is on the children".What the Hell is that supposed to mean, and get your head up out of wherever it is you've got it buried, and be responsible with your writing. Whether or not Clay is going to be a father, has nothing to do with his work with Unicef,and with children, which he's been doing for the last 5 years. C'mon, be real. And you all wonder why Claymates get pissed. It's people like you who don't do your research. Know your subject, be true to the reporting, Please.

You need a fact checker - Clay Aiken was interested in helping children long before he found out he was going to be a father (another "fact" that has yet to be proven since the report came from a tabloid). And, the only nutcase I can see is the one above me! Get a life and leave Clay and his fans alone.

As said in the above comment, Clay Aiken has been working with children since he was a camp counselor. He graduated with a degree in Special Edcation and worked with children with autism. He set up a foundation BAF which opens camps for children with disabilites so they might have the camping experience like any child. His work with UNICEF has taken him all over the world since 2004 to view the plight of children worldwide. It would really be great if comments from the media, press, blogs could reach out and find the truth about people before putting print out there which is false. Thank you!

Clay has always been concerned with the plight of this world's children. That is why he graduated with a special education degree. Becoming a "father" has nothing to do with it, whether that is true or not. For once, I would like to see some responsible journalism.

As has already been said, Clay has worked with children way before he ever tried out for American Idol. He worked at the YMCA, then became a special education major and teacher. Since being on American Idol, he has used his celebrity status to help children in many ways. He established the Bubel Aiken Foundation to help children with disabilities become included in activities and school with children without disabilities. He was asked to be a UNICEF Ambassador for Education and has made 5 trips overseas for UNICEF to work with the children in 5 different countries. He was a spokesman for Toys for Tots and has worked with Children through the Ronald McDonald House Charity. Clay is using his celebrity to enlarge his classroom and help millions of children. If the story is true that Clay is about to become a father (he hasn't commented on this yet), then it is just another loving extension of himself, this time with a child of his own....Why these stories about the work Clay is doing with children aren't reported about more often by more of the media I'll never understand. Maybe it they were, the writer of this article would have actually gotten his information correct.
