The CIA thriller had some big shoes to fill on Sunday… Its own.
After sweeping the Emmys with six wins for its debut season, the Showtime series “Homeland” re-arrived this weekend in full double agent flare. Staying strong and meeting expectations, the opening kept viewers on the edge of their seats.
Now, we know you might have been stuck doing the dishes last night, causing you to miss the episode… But, unlike a ticked off Claire Danes, we forgive you.
In a desperate attempt to make you not appear like a social outcast, here’s a few key beats to get you up to speed for the water cooler today…
Back in Action: The opening of the episode shows Carrie Mathison (Danes), recovered from her electroconvulsive therapy, tending a vegetable garden at her sister Maggie’s house. Rather than running down terrorists, the ex-CIA analyst is teaching ESL.
However, on Saul’s (Mandy Patinkin) request, she is called back into action to Beirut in order to contact an asset who will only communicate with her.
Undercover: Carrie sports a brown wig and brown contacts, arriving in Beirut to meet Saul. The disguise proves in vain, and she picks up a tail that she has to lose.
A chase scene ensues through the busy streets. She catches the pursuer, and – with a quick knee to the groin – brings him down. As a crowd gathers, she slips away.
Brody for Vice President: Congressman Brody (Damian Lewis) is now being considered for the role of vice president in the upcoming election.
This is major news, seeing as Brody would be running with William Walden (Jamey Sheridan), the man he was planning on killing last season!
Muslim Roots: Brody’s daughter Dona (Morgan Saylor) accidently calls out her father for being a Muslim in school.
When it turns out to be true, Brody’s wife Jessica (Morena Baccarin) flips her lid and later discovers his Koran. He buries the sacred book out of respect for his other half.
No Escaping Nazir: Brody’s terrorist mentor, Abu Nazir, sends agent and journalist, Roya Hammad, to bring him back into the game.
Hammad tells Brody to steal security info from a safe in CIA director of counterterrorism David Estes’ (David Harewood) office, thus aiding in a terrorist strike.
That ought to hold ya’ until you get back to your DVRs tonight… Now go pretend like you’re caught up on the show!
