Hollyscoop spoke with Applegate last week while she was on the red carpet as an honoree for the Women In Film Crystal + Lucy Awards. Where she said, “I am hoping that in the end that I am part of it,” but she didn’t know for sure.
“They are writing it and it is in its baby stages, so I don’t want to step on their toes and say anything.”
“They” being Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, who directed and wrote the first film as well.
The teaser trailer for the sequel to the 2004 comedic hit Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was released nearly a month ago. It featured a literal line-up of the key players from the first installment, Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner, but neglected to include Ron Burgundy’s love interest played by Applegate.
For some reason they decided to shoot the teaser, set to release in 2013, before the script has even been completed. Which accounts for Applegate being left in the dark about the future of her character and her exploits with the main man.
But great news people! Judd Apatow, producer of both films has just confirmed to E! News that Applegate will indeed be invited to the network news party!
"She will be back!" He said, though he doesn’t know exactly what’s being planned for the film.
He does know that it’s going to be chalked full of other cameos, much like in the first film, "I know that they want to do a lot of that," he said. "I just don't know who they're specifically thinking about."
There’s time for those reveals, but for right now, Christina is the only one we really cared about!
