The Anchorman 2 trailer set tongues wagging last month when Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner reprised their hilarious Anchorman personas, but the one thing we were missing was Christina Applegate as Veronica Corningstone.
Rumors swirled that even though she was left out of the trailer, she was indeed in the new sequel, however that’s not exactly what Applegate told us?!
The actress was honored at the Women In Film Crystal + Lucy Awards Tuesday night and said she “did not” ever confirm her spot in the new Anchorman flick.
“I am respectful to what Adam [McKay] and Will [Ferrell] are writing and I am hoping that in the end that I am part of it,” Applegate tells Hollyscoop.
Anchorman 2 won't be the same without Ron Burgundy and Veronica Corningstone’s will-they-wont-they tension! We want Corningstone!
“Hey, as do I!” says Applegate.
“I believe that I am in [it], but in what scope of what is happening…?” the actress wonders to herself.
She says it’s too early to tell, because Will Ferrell and writing partner Adam McKay haven’t even finished writing the movie yet!
“They are writing it and it is in its baby stages, so I don’t want to step on their toes and say anything”
For now, there’s “no scoop, nothing official.”
Fingers crossed she’ll appear in the sequel. From what McKay hinted to Indie Wire back in April, he said that the film would feature a “custody battle” which leads us to believe that Applegate will have to return as Ferrell’s (now ex?) lover.
For now, you stay classy Hollyscoop.
