Born May 5, 1989, Chris Brown is an American recording artist who released his debut, self-titled album in 2005 at the ages of 16. The album featured his hit single "Run It" which climbed the Billboard Hot 100, making Brown the first male artist to have his debut single top the chart since Montell Jordan in 1995.
Raised in a small town, Chris was the entertainer in the community, performing in church choirs and following in the steps of his favorite recording artists Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Sam Cooke. Inspired by Usher and The King of Pop's amazing rhythm and moves, Chris imitated their dances moves, even surpassing their movement.
Chris was first discovered by Tina Davis (Def Jam Records) who told Billboard magazine, "The first thing that hit me was his unique voice. I thought 'This kid is a star.'" She became his manager and developed a deal with Jive Records when he was 15 years old, joining other Def Jam acts like Britney Spears, NSYNC, R. Kelly, Usher, and Kanye West.
For his self-titled album, Chris collaborated with established produers and artists for his hit single "Run It!," such as Scott Storch, and Juelz Sanatana. His popularity continued to grow following the release of "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)" and "Gimme That," both big hits.
With his classic R & B vocals, hip-hop influenced music, and smooth dance moves, Chris was occasionally compared to his idol Michael Jackson for his triple threat talents. The album earned Chris two Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best R&B Contemporary Album. Although he did'nt win, Chris proceeded to win an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding New Artist and a Teen Choice Award for Choice Music Breakout Artist Male, on behalf of his growing fan base.
Showcasing his range of talents, Chris experimented with acting and landed a small role in Stomp in the Yard (2007), which focused around step dancing. Later in the year, Chris released his second album Exclusive, which showed off his ability to write his own songs such as "Kiss Kiss" with T-Pain. In addition to song writing, Chris developed concepts for his music videos and co-directed many of his projects.
In February 2009, Chris' success was overshadowed when he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, singer Rihanna during a verbal fight. Shortly after being released on bail, Chris released a statement that read, "Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired." He later pled no contest to charges of felony assault and criminal threats but was ultimately found guilty and sentenced to 180 days of community service and five years probation.
In 2011, Chris' fourth studio album F.A.M.E. debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart with first-week sales of 270,000 copies while its hit singles "Yeah 3x" and "Look at Me Now" dominating both the charts and the radio. He went on to release his fifth album Fortune in July 2012, but his work was unable to mirrior his last album's chart success.
Chris is set to release his sixth album X sometime in 2013, which features the single "Fine China."
The talented singer's has since appeared in several big-screen films such as the action thriller Takers (2010), the comedy Think Like a Man (2012) and Battle of the Year (2013).

Chris dated Canadian singer/actress Keshia Chante after meeting on the set of his "Shorty Like Mine" video. After seeing Rihanna's before and after shots, anyone would deny the rumors.
2008 - February 2009
Rumors that Chris and Rihanna were dating began in late 2007 but they officially confirmed their relationship in 2008. In February 2008, prior to the Grammy Awards, Chris and Rihanna got in a nasty altercation which allegedly started over a text message he received from ex. According to reports, Chris got extremely angry when she kept asking it and hit her repeatedly to shut her up. Soon after, Chris was sentenced to one year of domestic violence counseling, 6 months of community service, and was provided with a 5-year restraining order by the judge. In July 2009, Chris released a 2-minute YouTube video apologizing to Rihanna and for his actions.
