Cher's daughter Chastity Bono announced last week that she has begun the process to surgically become a man and will now be known as Chaz.
Chaz's mother Cher released a statement supporting her daughter during this difficult surgery.
Her statement reads: “Chaz is embarking on a difficult journey, but one that I will support.
"I respect the courage it takes to go through this transition in the glare of public scrutiny, and although I may not understand, I will strive to be understanding. The one thing that will never change is my abiding love for my child.”
She currently supports her daughter, but when Chaz came out of the closet at age 18, Cher was completely shocked. She even sent her to psychiatrists after she came out as a lesbian because she had always hoped her daughter would get married and have a family.
