Chelsea Handler has gotten mixed reviews as host of the VMAs last night—good and bad. But she doesn’t seem to care what people think, especially after the night’s numbers have rolled in.
According to MTV, last night’s show drew in 11.4 million viewers, which is the biggest audience for any telecast on the network since 2002. Chelsea happily tweeted the news herself today, saying, “Just got word...Highest rated vma's since 2002. Good job, mtv! Good job, kiddo.”
But she had less than nice words for Perez Hilton, who tweeted to Handler that he could have done "a better job" as host. To that she responded, “oh, fuck off. I had a blast and the show awesome last night. Bomb? Your life is a bomb.”
Other critics who panned her were New York Times’ Jon Caramanica, who wrote today, “She was among the worst in the show’s history — purposefully out-of-touch, with brief, alarming flashes of off-color racial humor.”
The Washington Post called her performance "a string of flat punch lines [that] felt a few degrees below crass."
Chelsea also tweeted to her fans, writing, “Thanks 4 watching everyone. I know I had a good night when I wake up with tape on my back & glitter on my face. Now, I have to go do my show.”
She certainly speaks her mind! What did you think of Chelsea’s performance as host?
