Chelsea Handler. biography
Chelsea Joy Handler was born on February 25, 1975, in Livingston, New Jersey, and is the youngest of six children. Struggling to find her own identity within a crowded family surrounding, Chelsea moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting, unaware of battle that comes with making it in Hollywood.
Once there, Chelsea went on a variety of unsuccessful auditions before getting a D.U.I. at the age of 21 and being ordered to attend an alcohol awareness class. After telling her D.U.I. story to her class and receiving big laughs, Chelsea realized she was meant to be a comedian.
Although new to the stand-up scene, Chelsea quickly started landing gigs at comedy clubs and gaining a following in part of her vulgar and loud style. Her revealing stories, usually consisting of her partying-ways, soon landed her on the sketch comedy show Girls Behaving Badly (2004) followed by guest appearances in the TV programs The Practice (2002), My Wife and Kids (2002) and The Bernie Mac Show (2004).
Following the release of her debut best-selling book My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands in 2005, Chelsea’s career gained momentum with the premiere of her own TV series The Chelsea Handler Show in which she made fun of celebrities through comedy sketches.
Despite only lasting one season, Chelsea’s quick-wittedness and lack of filter led to her own late night talk show Chelsea Lately. The show premiered in 2007 to high ratings, with an ever-increasing young female audience and numerous A-List celebrity interviews further propelling its success. The show has since entered into its seventh season and spawned the spin-off show After Lately (2011).
Between 2010 and 2011, Chelsea released her third book Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang (2010) and fourth book Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me (2011) as well as lent her voice to the animated comedy Hop (2011).
The following year, Chelsea created her own sitcom based off her 2008 book Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea, titled Are You There, Chelsea? (2012). She then returned to the big-screen in the comedy This Means War (2012) opposite her best friend Reese Witherspoon and the comedy Fun Size (2012).
Chelsea’s most recent projects include, the made-for-TV drama Call Me Crazy: A Five Film (2013) with Jennifer Hudson and the future release of her fifth book 50 Shades of Chartreuse: This Time It’s Personal sometime in 2013.
