Hollywood Leading Ladies Who Have Adopted

Charlize Theron announced her new mom news today, and she joins the ranks of a handful of other celebrities who have adopted.

Some call it charitable, some call it a trend, but one thing’s for sure: adoption gives tons of kids a new life, home and family. Angelina Jolie might be the queen of Hollywood adoptions, but she’s just one of many who have made the decision. Here are a few Hollywood leading ladies who have opted to adopt.

Charlize Theron: Charlize’s rep announced: “She is the proud mom of a healthy baby boy named Jackson.” No other details have been released about the adoption yet, but we can’t wait to see photos of Jackson Theron.

Angelina Jolie: Angelina has six kids: three are hers, and three are adopted. Maddox was adopted from Cambodia, Pax from Vietnam, and Zahara from Ethiopia.

Sandra Bullock: In 2010, Sandra Bullock adopted adorable baby Louis, and according to OK! magazine, Sandra’s ready to adopt again: “She’s excited and has been talking to Louis about the idea,” a friend told the mag.

Sharon Stone: Sharon and her husband, Phil Bronstein, adopted a baby son, Roan Joseph Bronstein in 2000. Their marriage might have ended, but Sharon is still a proud mom. In fact, in 2005, she adopted another son, Laird Vonne. One year later, she adopted another, Quinn Kelly.

Kristin Davis: Kristin says she was scared when she first held her adopted daughter, Gemma Rose: “It is terrifying, partly because with adoption you always know there’s the chance that it won’t work. So you’re on pins and needles,” Davis said.

She added that there’s also the possibility that the birth mother can change her mind. “Every state is different, but in [California] it’s 48 hours. So you’re trying to think that you’re a babysitter but that’s kind of impossible!” Luckily, Kristin ended up with a “beautiful healthy daughter” and is thoroughly enjoying motherhood.

Denise Richards: Denise adopted Baby Eloise last year, saying: “She’s brought so much joy, and I love her to pieces. She is a cuddle bug.”

Madonna: Madonna’s adoption from a Malawian orphanage caused some controversy when it was discovered that her adopted son, David, had other biological family in Malawi. The case eventually cleared up and the adoption was finalized, and that didn’t stop Madonna from adopting another Malawin child—Mercy James.

Sheryl Crow: Sheryl has two adopted children—Wyatt and Levi. When she adopted Levi at just one month old, Crow said her older son helped out with her single mother duties. “He gives baths, he helps burp, him, changes his diaper.”

Katherine Heigl: Heigl and her husband, Josh Kelley, recently adopted their daughter, Naleigh, from Korea. Earlier this year, Katherine said she might be ready for another baby. "I just wanted to be a mom. So however we did that, it's fine with me. I'd like to adopt again."
