When life hands you lemons, adopt a baby.
In an interview with Australian magazine Madison, Charlize Theron opens up about her desire to adopt.
Nearly two years ago, Charlize ended her 9-year relationship with Stuart Townsend. Finding herself 36 and single, Charlize remembered a promise she made to herself when she was a little girl.
“My mother found [a letter I wrote]. It said, ‘Would you please take me to an orphanage, so that I can go and adopt a baby?'" Theron remembers, “I always knew I would adopt. Always.”
However, Theron admits when she wrote that letter to herself, she assumed she’d have a husband or a partner when she finally became a parent.
“You know, I don’t think any mother aims to be a single mom. I didn’t wish for that, but it happened.”
But in Hollywood, anything is possible! Sandra Bullock, Denise Richards, and Sheryl Crow have all adopted as single women and they (plus the nannys) make it work!
“[Besides, marriage] has never been that important to me,” says Theron, “I don’t know why exactly. Some might say it’s because my parents didn’t have a good marriage, but I don’t think so. I treat my relationships like marriages. The ceremony isn’t that important to me.”
Charlize also recently said she has a hard time dating. She told the December issue of Vogue that she finds it impossible to date with her celebrity status. In order to avoid the paparazzi, she said she attempted to go on a first date, but that they had to go on the date at her house, which made everything feel very third-basey for their first time meeting.
