Since the whirlwind announcement that Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson will be playing the iconic lovers in the forthcoming Fifty Shades of Grey film, neither has spoken about the roles…until now.
Charlie told Hollyscoop exclusively that unlike the millions of loyal Fifty Shades fans, he never read the book before he was offered the role, and quite frankly, wasn’t sure if he wanted the gig.
“I had not read the books, my girlfriend had read them so I knew of them, as everyone does. As a member of the human race on Planet Earth you can't not know about ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’” he tells us at the “Sons of Anarchy” season six premiere event.
Charlie said he spent a long time deciding if he wanted the role because of all the pressure to live up to fans' expectations.
“I went through a long process with it, I wanted to really understand what it was all about before signing on and feel sure because he is such a beloved character and people are so fanatical about that character and his relationship [with Ana]. I wanted to feel sure that I could do him justice.”
“So it was a long process, I spent a lot of time thinking about it and researching it and came to the conclusion that I was up to the challenge,” he finally revealed.
