Stars Shine Spotlight on Seals

Celebs & Charities

Hundreds of compassionate people along with some of Hollywood favorites joined in to show their support to end Canada 's commercial seal hunt. Stars such as Emily Deschanel "Bones," along with her fellow actors Reggie Lee from "Prison Break", Darcy Halsey, Gina Philiips and Mirca Monroe were all present addressing the seal hunt which occurs far offshore, on unstable ice floes, in extreme weather conditions.

The hunt is largely hidden from public view, and sealers routinely cause unacceptable levels of suffering as they kill as many animals as quickly as they can. There are organizations such as the ProtectSeals team whose mission is to stop the animal cruelty and bring awareness. Earlier this month, former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, who joined in with this project hopping that Canada would end the hunt forever. To learn more information Click here.

I'm confused: are they complaining because of the WAY the seals are dying in the hunts or the fact that they are being hunted at ALL? I can agree w/the former but not the latter depending on how much these things could muck up the Canadian economy and/or the overpopulation could wrought on the environment later. Unfortunately, those things aren't explained in these "save the..." campaigns.

people certainly make more of an effort to stick up for the 'cuter' animals.

Ok this seal thing has gone out of hand. First of all, those white fluffy seals aren't even the same type as those that are hunted..the ones that are hunted aren't as cute, so they take pictures of the white cute ones to get sympathy. And also..they aren't just randomly killed and left there, their remains are used. Yeah so, it's not great. But the same thing happens in farms ALL over the world. so don't point your finger at canada.
