On Sunday August 19th, the Armenian Dramatic Arts Alliance (ADAA) hosted their “Annual Celebrity Gala” with performances by 'Fashion Guy' Lawrence Zarian alongside his twin brother Gregory Zarian, Ludwig Manukian and Gor Mkhitirian.
The ADAA, which is run by Bianca Bagatourian, was formed in 2005 and aims to project the Armenian voice on the world stage through the dramatic arts of theatre and film. Although the ADAA is a newly established organization, it serves as a vital source to bring Armenian stories, both old and new; archives historic literature relevant to Armenian drama; and provides a directory of contemporary actors, directors, playwrights, screenwriters, and other professionals within the performing arts industry.
At the gala, a $10,000 Paul Annual Playwriting and Screenwriting Award' was handed out by Ovation Award winning actress Karen Kondazian and the mayor of Glendale Ara Najarian, to award-winning playwright Richard Kalinoski. The other two finalists were, Oscar nominated screenwriter Jose Rivera, and Bill Hoversten. The Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was handed the Star award for his contribution to bringing recognition to the Armenian Genocide, and acknowledged the ADAA for its contribution to the enrichment of arts in California.
Various Hollywood professionals as well as ADAA board members attended the gala as well as director Alec Keshishian, Comedian Ara Basil, Anita Vogel, Reel Channel host Jill Simonian, Shant Hamassian, Shake Toukhmanian, Alex Kalognomos, Lory Tatoulian,Anahid Nazarian, producer for Francis Ford Coppola, editor Glen Farr and Broadway producer Anahid Shahrik.
