Cate Blanchett Hits Broadway

Cate Blanchett is taking her acting skills to the stage. She'll star in A Streetcar Named Desire when the show comes to New York at the Kennedy Center and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The Tennessee Williams production is being put on by the Sydney Theater Company out of Australia. Cate will play the part of Blanche DuBois.

The Sydney Theatre Company production, under the direction of Oscar nominee Liv Ullman, is set to play Sydney Sept. 1-Oct. 10, 2009. The production will then tour to the Kennedy Center Oct. 29-Nov. 21, 2009, prior to making its New York debut Nov. 27-Dec. 20, 2009.

This will be Cate's second time on the U.S. stage, her first being her starring role in Hedda Gabler. Wonder how Cate's ticket sales will compare to Katie Holmes'?
