Biography

American actor Casey Affleck was born on August 12, 1975 in Falmouth, Massachusetts. Casey is the younger brother of Ben Affleck.

He made his film debut in the 1995 dark comedy, To Die For, starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Nicole Kidman. He has appeared in many notable films including Good Will Hunting, Ocean's Eleven, and The Last Kiss.

In 2007, Casey starred in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford opposite Brad Pitt. Affleck received a Golden Globe and Oscar nomination for his performance as Robert Ford. That same year, Casey played the lead role in Gone Baby Gone, a film directed by his brother. He is married to Summer Phoenix, brother of Joaquin, and the couple has two children.

Did you know…
  • He almost had his left arm amputated when he was five
  • He and his brother have identical tattoos on their right shoulder blades
  • He is a vegan
  • He is a member of PETA
  • His best friend is Joaquin Phoenix
  • His favorite color is hazel
Remember when Joaquin Phoenix went bat shit crazy for a few months? Ya, it was all an act!

Casey Affleck admitted that the entire thing was just an act calling it "a terrific performance, it’s the performance of his career."

Magnolia Pictures released “I’m Still Here” last week and it almost went unnoticed. Partly because no one cared and knew it was a big act, and partly because it was really bad.

Roger Ebert said that move was “a sad and painful documentary that serves little useful purpose other than to pound another nail into the coffin.” Ouch!

“The reviews were so angry,” said Casey. Well, they wasted two hours of their time, wouldn't you be angry? "I never intended to trick anybody,” he added. “The idea of a quote, hoax, unquote, never entered my mind.”

"Virtually none of it was real," reports the New York Times. "Not even the opening shots, supposedly of Mr. Phoenix and his siblings swimming in a water hole in Panama. That, Mr. Affleck said, was actually shot in Hawaii with actors."

In a bizarre move, Joaquin Phoenix announced he's quitting acting to pursue a career in rap music. Most were shocked at his decision especially after he performed some "rap" songs at hotspot Lavo in Las Vegas. After the lackluster performance, rumors started circulating that his rap career was in fact a hoax and he was actually filming a documentary with his brother-in-law Casey Affleck.

NY Magazine has an interview that came out of a roundtable with Phoenix insisting that he's actually quit acting and denying that this is all a hoax. We're still keeping our fingers crossed on this all being a hoax. In the meanwhile, read the interview below!

On quitting acting:
"I just don't feel challenged by acting anymore. I don't enjoy the process anymore. I've enjoyed it very much at times, I'm very thankful for the people that I've had the opportunity to work with. I've had a good life, it's been amazing, I'm not complaining, it's not like acting just ruined me so I just have to leave. I'm just done with it. I didn't realize it was going to be such a big deal, I thought nobody would give a fuck, really to be to be frank. And I was pretty surprised. I guess no one does except for maybe like a couple people that are blogging or whatever."

On how his hip-hop career is going so far:
" Uh, terrible. No, it's kind of weird. I did a lot of free-styling around the studio and I've gone to small places, and I guess some people there filmed it and shit, and put it out there. But it's been really nerve-wracking, because there's literally people there heckling you . It was really difficult, I got really nervous. But the show in Vegas I think was a lot better than people think or what's been said, because of how it appears in the video. Still, I have to stay I'm not really there yet."

On his stage dive:
"I didn't fucking fall! First of all, it's not a stage, it's about this wide [indicates about four feet], you're up on this little platform, there's fucking lights everywhere, right in your eyes, flashing at you like that, and everything is dark, and I literally just went to step off the thing and misjudged and slipped down. I wasn't fucked up. I fell down and I literally jumped back up without harm and said, 'I'm fine.' But, I honestly was so nervous that I don't feel like I really was aware of what was happening until I was halfway through the second song."

On the "source" who told EW that his rap career is a hoax:
"I would say the people who said that this is all a hoax are clearly somebody who is an old friend, or somebody that I worked with on music. You know, I've worked with a lot of people on music in the past, and oftentimes those things don't work out. Sometimes you have some bad blood between people, and that's all that I imagine where it comes from. I realize that part of it might seem ridiculous to other people, but I can't concern myself with that. I'm not gonna be worried about what people think my life is. What people think has never affected my decisions, and I'm not gonna let that start now."

On reports that Diddy is producing his album:
"Um, I don't know how much I can say. I'll just say that we are going to work together shortly. As to whether that will be a complete album or not, I don't know, but I'm doing a lot of the music and production. I love doing the music, I love programming beats and kind of working on the music, as much if not more than the actual rapping. I mean, I hate fucking saying 'rapping,' it just sounds ridiculous. I wish there was another fucking word for what I do, because I don't think of myself as a rapper."

On other potential guests:
I want Dermot Mulroney, you know that actor? He's an amazing cellist. I've know him for years, and he's played a couple things on some older stuff. I'd like to work with him some more."

On that album's status:
"I have ten songs now, and three of them I think are really good, including one called "Can I Get a Refund?" and one called "If You're Going to San Francisco." The others I think are pretty crap but I'll work on them."

On his message:
"I don't have a message."

We were all a little shocked when Joaquin Phoenix announced that he was finished with the film industry, and wanted to focus solely on a career in music. But not just any music career.

Joaquin surprised fans a couple of weeks ago when he appeared in Las Vegas, rapping on stage. The whole thing was caught on camera by brother-in-law Casey Affleck. But before you go making fun of his efforts, it may all be a prank on us.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Joaquin’s latest stunt is just that. A source tells the magazine, "He said, 'It's a put-on. I'm going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers, and Casey is going to film it.”

Another source told the magazine, "It's an art project for him. He's going full out. He probably has told his reps that he's quit acting. Joaquin is very smart. This is very conscious. He has a huge degree of control."

Joaquin acknowledged to People just before taking the stage at Lavo in Las Vegas that people might not take his new gig seriously. He asked the crowd in Vegas, "Are there people out there who think I'm a joke? I'm sure there will be. Are there people who think it's going to suck? Probably, but I can't worry about that."

Wow, if it is a big prank, we don’t know what to say. Couldn’t he and Casey have come up with a better idea? How bout an interesting and educational documentary? It just seems like the dumbest idea if it is a prank. And if he’s for real, and never wants to return to film, we wish him the best! Because he needs it!

Casey Affleck is turning documentarist. He’s teaming up with Joaquin Phoenix to do a behind-the-scenes look at his new life as a musical artist. As you may recall, a few months ago, Joaquin announced that he was done with acting, and wanted to focus solely on music. But what may surprise you is that Phoenix is a rapper! We kid you not. Diddy is even producing his album. He’s even making his first public appearance tonight in Vegas with a performance at a club. So why these two? Well what you may not know is that Casey and Joaquin are actually brothers-in-law. Casey is married to Summer Phoenix, who is Joaquin’s sister. We already know Joaquin can sing, based on his amazing portrayal of Johnny Cash in Walk the Line. But rapping is a whole other story. Maybe he’s the next Eminem? We’ll have to wait and see!

Casey Affleck shows his old Hollywood charm in a photoshoot for the March issue of Vogue. The spread features him on the Paramount lot with model Karen Elson.

He wears jeans and sneakers while Elson looks like she's straight out of an old movie. I love the dichotomy of the pictures. He's one of those guys that looks hot dressed up or down.

Casey Affleck is an amazing actor! Unfortunately, he hasn't really been acknowledged for his previous roles. Many called his new movie “The Assassination of Jesse James” his “debut” role and he's a bit pissed cause he's been working in the industry for the last 10 years.

He says, "You slog away for years on end then, suddenly, everyone goes, 'Wow, where'd you come from? Out of the blue. Amazing!' And you go 'Out of the blue? I've been f**king doing ten auditions a week.' "I just haven't done many interviews, partly by choice, partly because no one's been that interested."

I believe his acting abilities were stretched in the movie “Gone Baby Gone” as he did an amazing job portraying the role he was playing. Oh and in case you were wondering, Casey is Ben Affleck's brother.
