Carla Bruni Confirms Pregnancy

Turns out it’s not just bloating. French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has confirmed her pregnancy, which, if you’ve seen any pictures of her lately, was pretty obvious anyway.

The 43 year-old model tells French newspaper Nice-Matin that her condition is “coming happiness, unexpected and unhoped for.”

Unhoped for? I understand there’s probably something lost in translation here, but that seems a little harsh.

Bruni-Sarkozy was recently seen sporting maternity wear and showing off her baby bump on the beach. Either that, or a whale had beached itself.

The baby is rumored to be a boy, but Bruni-Sarkozy says, “That, I don’t even know myself. There are certain things which one should keep secret.”

She’s also not revealing her due date, but judging from the photos, I’m guessing it was three weeks ago. She has a ten year-old son from a previous relationship, Aurelian.

So far, Bruni-Sarkozy says her role as France’s first lady has been “much less tiring than 10 years of modeling.”

Well, no kidding. I’m guessing French politics just entails sitting in on UN Meetings, nodding and saying, “uh, yeah sure, whatever the UK says.”
