And we all know revenge is a dish best served in your underwear.
Add Victoria’s Secret model Candice Swanepoel to the long list of hot celebrities who were once bullied. But she used it to her advantage.
“A year before I got scouted, I would watch a lot of FashionTV. At school, I got teased because I was so thin and awkward-looking. But the girls on TV looked similar to me. I would say to my mom, ‘The girls at school are teasing me, but I look like those girls on TV.’”
Then, someone took her to an agency, and the rest is lingerie-modeling history.
“Revenge is always…I know it sounds terrible, but it does feel good to show those people. I put all my eggs in one basket when I left South Africa. I put my head down and worked my ass off. And look where it got me.”
Candice graces the cover of British GQ magazine’s May edition. She wears a once piece bathing suit on the cover, but dons much less inside. Underwear. And shoes. The wardrobe department had an easy time with this one.
And despite the fact that she feels she’s gotten her revenge, Candice says she still has moments where she feels down on herself. Her remedy? Twitter.
“Whenever you feel down, you can check on Twitter and feel better about yourself, because it’s only people who like you.”
And yes, being a Victoria’s Secret model is just as badass as you’d think it’d be.
“It’s so nice. We live a very different life that not many other people can understand.”
