Because apparently, some people think homosexuality is hilarious, an April Fool’s joke surfaced stating that Bruno Mars had come out of the closet. His rep tells Hollyscoop—it’s not true.
“Someone pulled a prank and the world has run with it,” Bruno’s rep tells Hollyscoop. “The Internet is really powerful.”
Rumors sparked after a CNN iReport came out with the news. CNN iReport is basically a section of CNN for ‘citizen journalists’ from around the world. A story read: “The famous pop-star Bruno Mars admits his homosexuality.” The story caused Bruno to become a trending topic on Twitter.
Gossip Cop reports that a second unnamed media outlet then wrote that Mars “admitted to a small Chicago radio station” that he was gay. Mars was quoted in the story as saying: “The timing is bad. I hadn’t realized it was April Fool’s day, but it’s been pointed out to me, and I don’t want to go too public with this.”
Mars’ rep said the reports were “completely fabricated” and “false.”
“It was an April Fool’s joke that got out of hand,” Bruno’s rep told Hollyscoop.
Bruno’s not the only celeb to have his sexuality mistaken. Modern Family star Eric Stonestreet, who plays a gay guy on the show, said his girlfriend found out he was straight.
"I kind of always felt like I had to dig myself out of a bit of a hole, and tell girls know that I'm actually straight. But she was like, "Oh, I was watching 'The View' and saw that you weren't gay!' And we're still together."
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe says he’s often mistaken for being gay, and he loves it.
“It’s wonderful. I grew up around gay people my entire life. Basically, that’s possibly why I’m quite camp, and some people think I’m gay when I meet them, which I think is awesome.”
