Brittany Murphy's sudden death on Sunday raised a lot of eyebrows and has left a lot of questions unanswered.
Were drugs a factor in her death? How can a young woman of just 32 go into cardiac arrest? Did she really die of "natural causes?"
Initial reports cite cardiac arrest, the same cause that was attributed to Michael Jackson's death this summer. But there’s also speculation that excessive prescription drug use may have led to her death.
As Hollyscoop had previously reported, there were "a lot" of different prescription drugs found at her home at the time of her death. Some were prescribed to Brittany and others to her husband and mother.
According to the UK Sun, Brittany was also addicted to Vicodin, the same drug Michael abused.
One thing we do know about Brittany is that as talented as she was, she never thought her talent was enough to get her by in Hollywood. According to close friends of the actress, she never thought she was pretty enough or skinny enough.
Close acquaintances say she had severe body image issues and was often dieting and allegedly meddled in drugs. Eating disorder rumors also surfaced, which she denied.
"She had insane self-image issues," a close friend of Brittany’s tells People magazine. "Her weight, her hair, her clothes, her skin, her teeth, everything. She was always so self-conscious."
Adds another: "A lot of her problems were due to poor self image. She wore extraordinary amounts of makeup, tons of fake eyelashes, got her teeth capped, dyed her hair blonde, lost weight – she wanted to be a beauty. She didn't want to be the fat girl from Clueless. She didn't eat a lot. She would drink copious amounts of coffee."
Aside from her body image issues, rumors of drug abuse surrounded Brittany. In 2002, after she dramatically slimmed down, tabloids linked her svelte frame to cocaine. But of course, she denied those claims as well.
"Wow. No, just for the record I have never tried it in my entire life, I've never even seen it, and I don't leave the house too much, except to go to work," she insisted to Jane magazine about her alleged cocaine habit.. "I've never even seen it … It couldn't be further from the truth. I have known people over the course of my life that have bad problems with drugs, and it's something really serious."
However close friends paint a different picture. One told the UK Sun: "We have been very worried something like this was about to happen. Brittany has been living life on the edge. She definitely had a drug problem and we have all begged her to seek help. Sadly our words fell on deaf ears."
Despite battling her demons, Brittany seemed upbeat and positive about the new year in her last public appearance, telling Access Hollywood, "As far as having a New Year's resolution, I'd love to have a child next year."
Sadly, she didn’t make it to the New Year. Brittany died Sunday morning at just 32. An autopsy is currently underway to determine the cause of death, and while we don’t have answers for weeks, regardless of what the cause of death was, we lost a young talented actress way too soon.
