It’s been one month since the death of Brittany Murphy. The actress’ mother Sharon and her husband Simon Monjack have come forward to do an interview with the Associated Press to clear up any rumors about her death.
Monjack insists in the interview that Brittany did not die from an eating disorder or drugs. Rather, he says, she suffered from mitral valve prolapse, a heart condition in which a valve does not close all the way. According to Murphy’s husband, doctors had assured she would “live a long and healthy life.”
As for the countless prescription pills found at the couple’s Hollywood Hills home, Simon says some were his. He says Brittany had been occasionally taking anti-seizure medication klonopin since an incident that occurred during the filming of 8 Mile.
Brittany’s mother Sharon goes on to say that Brittany "had a fear of dying.”
"She would not take too much caffeine. She wouldn't even have a glass of champagne on New Year's," she said. “She was just high on life, and people see that as something else I guess."
Simon and Sharon reiterate that the day Brittany died was a total shock to both of them. "She was alive one minute and she was dead the next,” he said. "I think the dust will settle, the truth will come out. I think people will come to realize the genius of Brittany Murphy and come to regret the way they treated her while she was alive."
It sounds like Simon and Sharon have a lot of anger they’re holding onto. We hope they get the closure they’re looking for when Brittany’s toxicology report comes out. Sharon and Monjack are planning a public memorial in LA next month, and are creating the Brittany Murphy Foundation, which will benefit arts education for children.
