No more Mr. Nice Britney…
Wednesday’s episode of “The X Factor” took a machete to its sea of contestants, chopping them down to just a small lake. As could be expected, there were plenty of tears, but mostly drawn out suspense.
“We brought 120 acts to Miami,” Cowell said. “Twenty four will be left at the end of the week.”
A third of them went home on Wednesday night…
Side Note: Is Simon wearing an open dojo robe in his interviews? Button that up Cowell… No one wants to see that much chest hair.
"No second chances,” Britney said. “You either stand out or you go home."
We saw second performances from all of the contestants. Some improved from their auditions. Some had the judges scratching their heads, wondering why they gave them tickets to Florida in the first place…
A major point in the episode was an on stage battle between mini-Rihanna and mini-Ke$sha, Paige Thomas and Cece Frey. Each performed Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love you.”
Jennell Garcia became a main character in the show, singing a rendition of Gavin DeGraw’s “Sweeter.”
Not So Much:
Emblem3, who wowed us in their audition, fell a little short singing Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris." L.A. Reid questioned if the boy band was sustainable.
Nerves got the best of Jessica Espinoza, and it showed in her choice of "When You Believe." Mariah Carey would not be proud.
Johnny Maxwell forgot the lyrics of Diddy's "I'll Be Missing You." D’oh!
After the performances wrapped an excruciating montage dragged on and on as the judges sorted out their choices using ID cards for each singer.
The contestants were split into three groups: Group A, B and C. Each group was gathered on stage, one-by-one and B ended up going home. L.A. delivered the bad news.
“It’s a five million dollar prize… And that’s a really serious prize,” said L.A. “I’m afraid you guys are going to have to go home.”
And then came the tears!
Among the sobbing castoffs are Espinoza, Maxwell, the pigtail wearing Jordyn Foley, Diamond White and Trevor Moran, who frankly is a little too smiley for his own good.
“The X Factor” continues to chop on Thursday at 8/7c on FOX.
