Britney's 2007 VMA Performance Mystery

Let the theories begin! Britney Spears’ VMA performance was not at all what people expected and people are trying to figure out what went wrong.

Some are saying that Spears heard about the insulting Sarah Silverman skit and got really upset.

In case you didn’t see the show Silverman said, “Have you seen Britney’s kids? Oh my god, they are the most adorable mistakes you will ever see!” Silverman said. “They are as cute as the hairless vagina they came out of.”

Britney’s fan site breatheheavy.com is reporting the following:

Britney Spears was to perform under the magic of Chris Angel... but MTV freaked out at the last minute finding out what Britney was actually going to do.

Supposedly, what Britney and Chris were planning was to do a set of mirrors and flotation. But when told to the Palms Hotel/Casino... the hotel flipped.

Insurance was the main problem, and the stage couldn't support the performance. MTV also freaked at the last minute because of their fear of being "too controversial" during the performance. Britney and Chris were infact furious with MTV's sad excuse and told Britney to change the performance at the last minute.

Britney's original performance was to infact appear and disappear. To float through the air... and for much mature dancing.

Honesty, I don’t know what it was but the performance was quite alarming to say the least.

I wish that the performance that was hyped up was the one we had all seen. Unfortunately, this was lackluster but I will still support Britney. She looked amazing, in my opinion, and her dancing wasn't horrible... it just wasn't top notch like it used to be. Maybe next year's performance will be even better. =)

If there is one thing britney spears has ever had going for her its her charismatic nature and her uncanny ability to put on outstanding performers. however, tonight that did not happen. something went wrong. its serious. and it will be dealt with once figured out. the media must stop attacking this woman however. how can she come up for air if everyone is pushing her down?

what the hell happened? she looked dazed, confused, and straight up forgot the words to (almost) the enitire song! even if the whole set changed at the last minute and she was forced to do a different show, she should be prepared for that because that's what professionals do. the roll with the punches. this was horrible and she looked like a lost little girl up there.

What is the saying "the show must go on." She is a professional and she should have rolled with the punches. She should have been rehearsing her ass off instead staying out partying till 4am. And either lost a little weight or worn a outfit that covered her up more. She's not fat, but not in shape enough to wear something like that. The girl totally bombed and unless somebody died before she walked on stage, there in no excuse for that. I'm sure her spin machine is working hard right to come up with a good excuse, Sarah Silverman, Criss, Mtv, the hotel. Anything will do. But the bottom line she was not ready for this performance or any performance and would done herself a favor if she cancelled if that was what she going to present to the audience.

Well I absolutely hated her 'performance', but after reading what everyone has been saying online "the fat lady sings" etc, I actually feel kind of bad for her - for the first time. She was probably pushed into doing that performance and now has to deal with all the backlash. It's a vicious system - I'm sure MTV didn't actually care whether she was good or not, they just wanted the ratings and inevitable attention. Britney really IS used by others. Mind you, I still don't like her. But maybe now she'll take some time off properly and sort herself out?

Tasha, I couldn't had said it better myself. Britney always try to blame her troubles on everyone else but herself. It is time she take responsibility and see that partying and getting high BEFORE performing. I just can't believe people are still saying that performance was great and that people should back off. She wasn't pushed to do this performance, she wanted to do the performance because she loves being in the spotlight. She alerts the paps where she is so she can get her picture taken. She needs to focus on her kids and stop focusing entirely on herself and her career. She has enough money to lay low for a few years and then if she wants to come back to the spotlight, then she should go for it. If you have true talent, it doesn't matter when you come back because the talent is always there. But Brit just proved she doesn't have "true talent" and isn't a true performer. Heck she needs to take a lesson from Beyonce who tripped and fell while on stage live performing but bounced right up and didn't miss a beat after that.

I thinking maybe she choose that outfit, because she thought everyone would focus on that and not the fact that she can't lip-sync and dance anymore. It's sad to see how far she has fallen. Their really is no excuse for how out of shape she is (I don't mean that referring to her weight. So I make my self clear it refers to her skills as a performer). I think as a celebrity performer she should of been working harder to get back to where her dance skills use to be, and being that she was off stage for only a couple of years it should not have been that difficult to get herself back to that place she use to be. Britney Spears is completely manufactured in the first place, so why is it so shocking to "discover" that she has no talent? Well, she can dance, but so can millions of people. There is nothing exceptional about her, except the hype machine that has pushed her to the masses for the last decade. The Empress has no clothes. . . big surprise.

La chat, I did say she was horrible and her performance was going to suck...and it did. what I was saying was that I don't believe that her people and Criss Angel didn't get clearance for the trick beforehand. Magicians need to have all their equipment to perform their tricks...the Palms is not his venue, so Criss would have to perform the trip a couple of times on the stage she was using in order to make sure the "magic" worked. So I don't think it was a last minute decision on MTV's part. I think Britney, being the spoiled brat she is, thought she could just walk in and do what she wanted. Plus you could tell she was on something and totally buzzed out. I stand by everything I've said about her...it's over, Britney, it's over.

Oh okay...I misunderstood the point you were trying to make. I have no idea why. It seems more clear to me now. Sorry about that. I agree that she sould have better control over her act and it was probabily performed a few times before they had filmed it. They need at least two or three rehersals before a live performance at least one of them is a dress rehershal so they should have know before the last minute if they would have to pull the performance or change it their is no way this was a last minute decision.

It's proof that people will tolerate odd behavior, scandals, divorces, and even legal troubles if you can still perform an act. We saw this with Michael Jackson who could still go onstage and dazzle thousands. Britney can't even come close, and it's truly tragic. I don't care what anyone else says, she has talent as a performer (regardles of her vocal limitations). She could light up a stage, and perform a show, but now look at her. All the tabloid drama, divorce, craziness, breakdowns, partying, nudity, ranting, crying, and questionable parenting has come down to this moment. She will never recover from last night, and that's the saddest thing. Even if she picks herself up, gets in shape, and goes back to her old self, her faults will still be with her. Her lack of vocal talent, and other aspects of her performance will be the focus. Gone is the little mousecateer, and here is the young woman who never got to grow up and experience life the way "normal" people have. I wish you well Britney, and I hope you have the sense to take what money you have now, and wisely invest in your kids future and livelyhood. Also, another bit of advice...find a rich guy who's a superfan, and marry him. He probably won't be a fan for long if you keep putting out performances like that. Also, go to an AA meeting. Seriously.

Im disapointed to say the least, but at the same time i think everyone is taking it to seriously. I admit it was a kinda boring performance, but at the end of the day, between all those stars in the VMA awards, she is still one of, if not the most famous and successfull of all of them, shes had a bad time recently and people just want any excuse to pick on her. Shes only human and only 2 or more years ago she owned the music world and people should congratulate her on that.....i say well done BRITNEY.
