Britney Spears' 2007 VMA Performance

Its official--Britney Spears is a lost cause. The MTV VMA’s are finally here and the big show is already under way. For the past few weeks there has been a lot of hype surrounding Spears’ supposed ‘comeback’ performance but let’s just say it was less than mediocre. She was wearing heels that she could barely walk in and her performance consisted of her going from one side of the stage to the other in a jeweled bra and panties lip-syncing.

Several sources that had seen Spears’ rehearsals this week said she was great, but her performance during the show didn’t live up to the hype. It was obvious she was really nervous. Criss Angel was supposed to be on stage with Spears as well but he was barely walking across the red carpet during her performance.

Hollyscoop was on the red carpet at the VMA’s and asked the stars if they thought Britney was going to make a comeback and everyone seemed to be really excited and supportive.

that performance was horrible!!! And i never did like the song. THe only people who will buy her cds are young out of control teenagers. The internet is already abuzz with Brit's performance. And the critics agree...it sucked. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure I will, perhaps unwillingly because MTV can wear out anything if they have enough slots for re-runs. I kind of don't want to see it, but then again, I do. I guess that's why they call it a train wreck...painful to watch, yet too unbelievable to turn away from.

Hell I could've done that, anybody could. And why didn't she get into shape? You can't wear skimpy outfits like that on stage and have a gut. I can't believe her people let her do that. But that's her problem, she doesn't listen to anybody. I've always said Britney fans were in love with a Britney that does not exist anymore. That was evident tonight. That Britney is gone. I think the girl should leave Hollywood and get her life together.

That was so simple. As everyone we all were expecting something shocking, amazing, magic, something strong. This was really bad for her and her career. Is not the worst thing in the world but is not the best and it was supposed to be the best for a comeback. I hope her music video for the song gets better than this. Is so sad to see her without self esteem and confidence. She needs help

THIS WAS HORRIBLE. Not only did she lip sync through it but she didnt have any facial expression and couldn't even dance. Not a comeback more like digging the hole deeper.

It was ok. Tabloids hyped it was going to be some Criss spectacular. Never did Britney do it. Keep in mind this was Britney's first major live performance in 2 yrs and it's only understandable she'd be nervous and not all into it. It's unfortunate, but hopefully she does better in the future.

It's sad seing someone I idolized growing up, completely bomb on stage. There was so much hype surrounding this performance, not only from fans but from fellow celebrities. You would think that she would have done a better job at performing, but she gave up. She's gained a lot of weight, her dancing was lame and her lip synching was worse than Ashlee Simpson. What a disappointment.

im really sad..i mean i feel bad for britney..of course..i will still root for her..but i guess it just didnt live up to all that hype. and i do think that she could have gotten more in shape. compared to average people she may be okay..but compared to her old self..that body needs a little more exercise..anyways..i just think she was really nervous..and after she gets a reality check..hopefully she will want to actually TRY and prove people wrong..because obviously she didnt look like she was much interested at all.

I am sorry to say that I always liked Britney but this performance was painful to watch. She looked either high or drunk, she lost her balance a few times and didn't even try and looked uninterested in the performance. She was not ready to wear that outfit. It looked like she only practiced once and still was unsure. She looked like a bad Britney impersonator. I was very disappointed at her performance.

Ummmm, Bets...she may look okay being a mother of two if she was wearing a bathing suit at the pool but to go onstage in front of millions of people in a VERY unflattering outfit was a huge mistake. A shirt and skirt would have been a lot more flattering and maybe would have made her more comfortable. She obviously felt self conscious as well she should. It was the WRONG choice for her body which looks like that of a mother of two...so...have some class and wear clothes BECAUSE you're a mother of two...She's truly out of touch with her reality.

Britney needs MTV, but more than that... MTV really needs a person like Britney... The performance was terrible and makes the VMAs look bad as well. MTV should have micro-managed this situation to make sure it was "Britney" material before allowing her to do this. End of an era!! Timberlake kind of eluded to it in his speech... I bet the rating will suck and they rented out the entire Palms... like HOW MUCH DOES THAT COST?!?! Bad business decisions...

Hmmm, while it's not her best, the song was pretty good, though she really shouldn't have worn that costume, she's just not fit enough right now, and those boots, NO! Bad choice since she was dancing, you could tell she was afraid to lose balance. Sheesh! When is someone going to get the guts to tell this fool she's blowing it? She phoned the whole thing in.

That was an amateur performance. She didn't look like she was having fun at all! She kinda looked nervous, but still, she should have stepped it up, especially since SO many people were expecting her to fail. And where was Cris Angel throughout all of this? It was so BLAH, to say the least. And as for feeling sorry for her, as many of you do, I say, GET A GRIP, BRIT! She has totally done this to herself. She has lost all touch with reality. I actually feel sorry for her kids. She looks like a whore prancing around on stage!

She seemed terrified up on the stage and I think probably doomed herself to failure. It was a let down for me because lip syncing or not she has put on some great performances but tonight was probably one of her worst.

It was bad, but at the same time if you payed attention, you could see this look in her eye of just absolute lonilness and someone who is on the verge of giving up on life. criss angel obviously flaked out on her, which had to have put a stress and just disappointment in her already lonily and isolated life she is now living. I know most of that is self induced, but I can't help but have the thought that we will hear of something very tragic happening to her. i.e drug overdose or something tragic like that. And that is sad she is so lost in her life.

The performance was not horrible, the song was great and she looks great after having two kids and unhealthy lifestyles for two years. The performance was not what she did in her hayday but I believe in time she will get her spark on styage again, like when she "Gimme More" becomes a hit and she sells CD's.

i have dissed britney with the best of them for the last couple of years, and was prepaed to gloat to my friends that i was right, there wasnt gong to be a fabulous comeback. now i dont even want to gloat. this was just...sad...and kind of pathetic. i mean, didnt someone tell her the hair looked like he lefovers of my barbies hair after i played salon with it and dropped t into the pool and left it there for two days and she hasbroken nails...and i don think shes fat, but i ill say that to wear an otfit like that you dont even to be thi, just toned. she was not toned at all. and the lipsynching was whole new low. i dont mind when singer lipync cuz usully they have a omplicated performnace but she barely moved!!!!!

Hey, she was fine and it is a good song. There is a flock mentality with this girl. She fell in love, gave her heart 100% to a bad guy who took everything and more he could from her. She was honest and true. Give her a damn break. Must be impossible to recoup with the games being played all the scrutinity; and, remember she is way too young for all she is going true. I think if she had the energy that she used to and wasn't nervous, she could've done so well. The routine may have been simple, but woth the right attitude, it could've worked out wonderfully. Unfortunatly, that energy was gone tonight. Hopefully she'll get it back for her next performance. Assuming there is one, that is.

It was too soon and at the wrong time.. Other people that should be getting some questions right now are her agent, etc.. Britney didnt even appear sober during this performance.. She is very self-destructive.. Something has went very wrong with Britney since she married Kevin and had children.. She could have depression, other issues.. She needs to leave the Hollywood life for now.. go get sober and take care of herself and her children and maybe try again in a couple years..

Honestly, look at the heels, watch her try to walk and dance. She can't extend at all, she can't take any long strides. She is bascially performing on her toes. Not easy to do.

Knowing she really had to step it up, this was after all billed as a "comeback" and the expectations were high, even though she likely knew she wasn't ready, she got herself into a mess and was afraid to back out, as that would have been a possible "end" to her in the music business. So sad to see this. I actually thought her body looked okay, not spectacular, but her face was void of all expression, like she was either terrified, stoned or both. Word is she partied with Diddy late into the morning and did not get any sleep, which in and of itself would be foolish knowing something this important was in a few hours. Yes, she should know better but what about her representatives? Shame on everyone.

She should wear clothes...it was okay when she was like 17, but now she should really wear clothes, not that her body is bad...but clothes, at least a "litttle more" would have been more flatering...The song is cool...it's fun, but im not sure if it's a vma song...her face looks better, her hair looked like she was going to the grochery store @ 9pm...she did look a little bored...okay, a lot bored. I hate to say it, but it was not her finest moment. Tonight I will include her and her career in my prayers.

Actually... I didn't think it was *that* bad. True - she wasn't exactly skipping across the stage and doing back flips, but I thought the movements fit the style and mood of song and the whole costuming thing. She looked like a go-go dancer to me, and her dance moves resembled such. The strippers were a bit over-the-top, but this is Vegas, right? That said - all the Britney haters need to get on that damn stage and try it themselves after everything she's been through.

I don't get why people think Britney's 'lost her will' and her 'ablity to dance'. Do you seriously think that's the case? She is a seasoned perfomer. Britney OBVIOUSLY was high - I'm convinced it's heroin or serious painkillers - at the very least on weed. THAT'S why her performance was lack-lustre. She was OUT OF IT. I am surpised at all the negative comments about her body since I thought she looked normal. I have to agree though that peformance was not good. I don't like her voice but I expected her to dance at least so I watched her peformace with the sound off. It made it worse because she barely moved at all. PS. Sarah Silverman was way out of line calling Britney's kids as "mistakes". One more reason why I can't stand her.

I think that she should have taken that hair out. I think that it's long enough now, for her to be comfortable with it just growing out. Yes, we all dig long hair on her... it's damn nice! but the fans also understand, that her hair is growing.
