Stars React to 2009 Oscar Nominations

Getting an Academy Award nomination is the highest honor any actor can receive, and this year nine individuals are first time nominees. Below are some stars' reactions to the Academy Award Nominations that were announced this morning:

"It is such a thrill to be recognized in this category with these remarkably talented women. I was with my parents and my dog when I got the news and we were all overjoyed- although I'm not sure my dog knew what was going on. This is a great day to be an actress!"

--Anne Hathaway tells Hollyscoop.com about her Best Actress nomination.

"It is very special because of this movie. I am happy "Milk" received so many nominations and that people are paying attention. The subject matter is so timely and important right now because of what is happening in California with Prop 8. When I think about my life a few years ago, being happy just to feed my kids, never in a million years would I have imagined I would be up at 5 in the morning getting phone calls saying I was nominated for an Academy Award. There is no reality to it."

--Josh Brolin tells Hollyscoop.com in regards to his Best Supporting Role nomination.

"I am very excited, deeply honored and grateful. I thank Laray Mayfield, David Fincher, Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy for giving me the opportunity to bring Queenie to life."

--Taraji Henson tells Hollyscoop.com in regards to her Best Supporting Role nomination.

“This is a great honor for the movie, and I’m especially happy for David Fincher, for without him there would be no Ben Button.”

--Brad Pitt responds to his nomination for Best Actor in his role in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

"Working with Clint Eastwood was a reward in itself that will last me a lifetime. To receive a nomination from the Academy on top of that is a privilege beyond any expectation. It has been an exceptional year for acting, and I am honored to be in the company of these talented actors whose performances all deserve this recognition. I am also happy that Kung Fu Panda was noticed by the Academy and proud to be a part of a film my entire family loves so much."

--Angelina Jolie comments to Extra about her Oscar nomination for Changeling.

“I'm extremely happy to have been nominated. And very fortunate. Playing Hanna Schmitz will always remain one of the biggest challenges I've ever been blessed with. I'm genuinely thrilled not just for myself but for the wonderful Stephen Daldry and David Hare. These nominations are a testament to their unwavering commitment to this film. And I'm also very happy for all the people in Germany whose hard work on THE READER, has been rewarded by these nominations. Surely Anthony Minghella and Sydney Pollack are smiling down on us today!”

--Kate Winslet reacts to Extra for her nomination for Best Actress for her role in The Reader.

"I am so honored to be nominated for a film in which I am so proud and to be included with such a wonderful and talented group of women. It was an honor to work with Darren and the rest of the cast and crew of 'The Wrestler.'. Congratulations to Mickey, for an extraordinary performance."

--Marisa Tomei reacts to her nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Wrestler.

"The response has been extraordinary - of people saying they want to see it, or have seen it... You've got to just live with the moment really - it's just extraordinary…So we can go to our premiere now here, and say that Hollywood has bestowed this kind of honor. It's absolutely extraordinary, so thank you to the Academy. What a wonderful honor."

--Danny Boyle responds to his nomination for Best Director for Slumdog Millionaire.
