Hollywood’s head couple has been rumored to be tying the knot soon over the last couple weeks. Adding fuel to that gossipy fire was a statement that French mayor Michael Latz reportedly gave the UK’s Hello! magazine saying that the couple planned to wed this weekend. However, according to Latz himself, the statement might as well have been given from Tinker Bell.
Reuters was able to track the mayor down to get the facts straight.
“I don’t know who they are,” Latz told the source, referring to Hello! “It's nonsense. I've had 50 phone calls and I am telling everyone to get lost because this is tiresome and irritates me.”
Latz is the mayor of the village of Correns in southeastern France. The village is the location where Brad and Angelina own their 17th-century Chateau Miraval together.
Though they did not directly quote the mayor, Hello!’s original article did mention Latz’s name and stated that he would likely preside over the ceremony.
“According to the mayor of the French village where the Tinseltown golden couple own a home, they will wed this coming weekend,” the article reads.
Along with denying that he ever even talked to Hello!, Latz plans to seek out the publication and give them a piece of his mind.
“I am going to pursue [Hello!] for misleading statements,” Latz told Reuters.
Brad and Angelina announced their engagement in April of this year. They have been together since 2005.
Though they have yet to officially announce a wedding date, the high-profile couple has previously made clear that they plan to hold off on their nuptials until gay marriage was made legal on a U.S. federal level.
