The film was invited to the festival, and director Quentin Tarantino has also decided to place the movie into this year’s competition. According to Variety, Tarantino promises the film will be completed by May, and ready for screening. The movie is about a band of Jewish-American soldiers who are ordered to take down a group of Nazis.
This will be a huge publicity boost for Inglourious Basterds, and will mark Tarantino’s second time ever vying for the festival’s top prize. As you may recall, the last time he entered the competition, he won with Pulp Fiction in 1994.
The full lineup for Cannes will be announced April 23rd. The festival runs for from May 13th-24th.
