Brad Pitt to Retire from Movies

Brad Pitt to Retire from Movies

In an interview with Australia’s version of 60 minutes, 47-year-old Brad Pitt says he wants to retire at age 50. For someone who only seems to get better looking with age, this might be the worst news I’ve heard all morning.

He tells 60 minutes that he’s only got a few years left and he wants to go into the boring, non-attractive side of the business called “producing,” which is what all actors do when they get too much money and want to seem important.

“Three years,” he says. “I am really enjoying the producing side and development of stories and putting those pieces together...Getting stories to the plate that might have had a tougher times otherwise."

He also adds that he wants to make movies that his kids will be able to see one day.

“I am more passionate now that I am a father. It has focused my mind on the kind of work I want to do. Now I want to make films the kids can see and that might stay with them. I want to make films they can be proud of.”

For example, he says the movie he just wrapped, “World War Z” was made so that his kids can finally enjoy his movies. If you didn’t know, “World War Z” is a zombie apocalypse film, which sounds about as “kid-friendly” as “Citizen Kane.” I know that Angelina Jolie kind of threw 10 kids at Brad Pitt and was like “here, father them” but Pitt has a lot to learn about what movies kids want to watch. Pitt needs to take a hint from Johnny Depp, so when he says that he wants to make films for his kids, it really means that he wants to star in another sequel to “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

However, he adds that there are still some characters he wants to play as he gets older.

“We all have a shelf life, and mine is coming – although there are a couple of things I'd still like to do. I am looking forward to playing a foul-mouthed grumpy old dude one day, that's for sure” Pitt tells Culture Magazine.

With the way that Pitt is gracefully aging, I doubt he’ll come close to looking like an “old dude” in the next three years.

Pitt says his reasons for leaving acting is so he can focus on his family. He hints that maybe he and Jolie want more kids.

“You know, I don’t know that we’re finished. I don’t know yet. I don’t know,” he admits.

With 6 kids already, the Jolie-Pitt brood is quickly heading towards getting their own TLC show.

He says he loves the chaos of parenting so much to let something like acting get in the way.

“Those late nights are so much fun when one of them is up or those morning when they get up and make pancakes or something. That’s what it’s about.”
