Writer/director Tyler Perry has cast the daughter of the late Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina, in a recurring role on his TBS sitcom, ‘For Better or Worse,’ which debuts its second season in July.
“I have to carry on the legacy,” Bobbi told Oprah in an interview earlier this month. “We’re going to do the singing thing. Some acting, some dancing.”
Perry’s rep confirmed the news, as did a rep for the Houston family.
The sitcom is based on Perry’s 2007 Why Did I Get Married? and his 2010 film, Why Did I Get Married Too? And yes, he stars in both.
Tyler has vowed to take Bobbi Kristina under his wing following her mother’s death in February. When Whitney Houston died, Perry reportedly lent his private jet to the Houston family in order to fly Whitney’s remains from California to New Jersey.
Perry also spoke during Whitney's service saying:
"There are two constants that I know about Whitney Houston. There was a grace that carried her from heaven down through Miss Cissy Houston, a grace that brought her up through singing...The same grace led her all the way to the top of the charts...The other thing I know for sure, more important than anything she's done in her life, Whitney Houston loved the Lord."
No word on when Bobbi will make her debut, but TBS has ordered 35 new episodes of the show, which will premiere in July.
