Amanda Brumfield has been charged with first-degree murder.
Brumfield is being charged with aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter charges following
the death of a one-year-old girl she was baby-sitting in Florida last October.
Amanda Brumfield, 29, was booked at the Orange County jail in Florida last night.
Brumfield was babysitting the child in October, and claimed she had fallen and hit her head. Police say Brumfield called 911 more than two hours later after being unable to revive the child.
An autopsy revealed a fractured skull and brain injury, leading the medical examiner to rule the death a homicide. The Associated Press reports that Brumfield's explanation was inconsistent with the child's injuries.
A police spokesman said at the time: "It's not believable that a one year old can balance themselves on a railing. We do believe her head hit a hard object but you would either have to fall harder or hit something with more force than a 28-inch playpen fall."
After Brumfield's arrest, Thornton's publicist said: "Mr. Thornton is estranged from Amanda and has had no contact with her for quite some time."
It's so tragic that an innocent one-year old lost her life after being in her care for just a few hours. We hope they throw the book at her!
