We will all remember where we were when we found out Beyonce was pregnant. After the singer announced it at the MTV awards on Sunday night, Twitter went berserk, with everyone logging on to express their sheer and utter delight.
The news set a new record with 8,868 Tweets per second (TPS). It was even bigger Twitter news than the royal wedding and Osama Bin Laden’s death, almost combined.
The royal wedding peaked with 3,966 TPS. And Osama bin Laden got 5,106 tweets per second. So if you look at the statistics and crunch all the numbers, I think this means Beyonce’s fetus single-handedly ended the war on terror. I don’t know how, but you can't argue with the facts.
Beyonce appears to be in the second trimester of her pregnancy, and when Hollyscoop talked to her bestie, Kelly Rowland, she revealed:
“I think they’ve chosen a name.”
So how did Beyonce keep the news secret for so long? Well, one tactic Beyonce used in keeping her pregnancy under wraps is, she stayed the hell out of Los Angeles.
"Beyoncé has always been a tough subject to keep track of," Justin Smith, of the photo agency Fame Pictures, told E! News.
"She's very calculated about letting herself get photographed, and she spends so much time outside of L.A., that we don't invest a lot in working on her."
And when she was photographed, it was very calculated. E! News photo editor, Lindsay Scheinberg, said:
“She's been shot more during concerts rather that out and about in public.”
This, of course, gave Beyonce more control over lighting/angles/poses so she could look as un-pregnant as possible.
As the pregnancy became more noticeable, Beyonce also opted for looser outfits. During the July 26 record release party for Rowland, Beyonce wore a loose, draped Lanvin jumpsuit. She added a wide belt at the waist to give the illusion of cinching. That’s not going to fool anyone when you’re nine months in, but for now, it worked.
When Beyonce showed up to the 2011 VMAs, though, I guess she knew there was no hiding the baby bump anymore. She wore a long, orange Lanvin gown and the cat was out of the bag.
That’s when we all got on Twitter to write: “OMG #Beyoncepregnant #icantbelievethis #yougogirl!”
The Twitter surge reportedly occurred right after viewers saw Beyonce rub her belly on stage. The cameras then focused on Jay-Z, who was getting congratulations from Kanye West.
