With the Novemeber’s election season fast approaching, President Obama made a appearance Tuesday night on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” in an effort to reach out to younger voters.
But the president didn’t just stop at the standard show-up-and-get-interviewed; he went a little further and got his slow jam on!
Fallon’s tone – not to mention the hype leading up to the appearance – set the mood that something big was about to happen.
The host announced he wanted to slow jam the news that night. Moments later Obama materialized from behind the curtain announcing, "I'm President Barack Obama and I, too, want to slow jam the news."
But it wasn’t all jokes. Under the hilarious set was a serious message.
"On July 1st of this year the interest rates on Stafford student loans, the same loans that many of you use to help pay for college are set to double,” Obama grooved under The Roots slow beat. “And that means some hard-working students will be paying about $1,000 extra just to get their education.”
The camera pulled back to reveal a seriously chilled out Fallon.
"Ohhh yeahhh, you should listen to the president!" Fallon said in the foreground. “Or as I like to call him, the Preezy of the United Steezy.”
After the song, the president sat down with Fallon and answered questions. Knowing his audience, Fallon continued to relay his concern about the rising student loans and the burden that it puts on the country’s future.
The president also discussed the recent drama with the promiscuous secret service members, spoke about his very own “man cave” at the White House, and announced he had no plans to legalize marijuana on a federal level any time soon.
Other than a brief performance from the Dave Matthews Band, President Obama spent the entire hour with Fallon.
Will the Obama-Fallon duo make the cut for Fallon’s comedy album Blow Your Pants Off for the June 12 release? We’ll have to wait and find out!
