Etta James has finally come to her senses and realized that the comments she made about President
Barack Obama were uncalled for. Her beef with
Beyonce still stands though.
During a concert in Seattle earlier this week,
Etta slammed Beyonce and Obama for not including her in the Inauguration.
She told the crowd: "You know, YOUR President, the one with the big ears-he ain’t MY President–had that woman singing for him at his Inauguration. She’s going to get her ass whooped. How dare Beyonce sing MY song that I been singing forever."
Well let's just say those comments didn't sit well with everyone and Etta is now left red faced. She tells the New York Daily News, "I didn't really mean anything. Even as a little child, I've always had that comedian kind of attitude... That's probably what went into it."
The singer admitted she was angry about Beyonce's performance because it made her feel "left out of something that was basically mine, that I had done every time you look around."
She added: "(I) always thought he was handsome and he was cool. I still had my joke about him. That might be horrible. The President might not ever like me in life. (But) he's got other stuff (to worry about) besides Etta James."
For the record, "At Last" wasn't Etta James' song, it was originally performed by the great Nat King Cole. And it's not like Beyonce is the only singer to have ever covered the track. Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Martina McBride, Céline Dion, Christina Aguilera and Norah Jones have all sang that track.
It's really sad that a 70 year-old woman would be so jealous of Beyonce that she would publicly diss her like that. Beyonce did an amazing job at the inauguration.
