The cast and crew of
Slumdog Millionaire had an emotional night on Sunday as they dominated the 81st Annual Academy Awards taking home eight Oscars, including those for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director for Danny Boyle.
"Just to say to Mumbai, all of you who helped us make the film and all of those of you who didn't, thank you very much. You dwarf even this guy," Boyle said, holding up his directing Oscar.
And Hollywood wasn't the only place fans were celebrating the movie. Oscar celebrations were taking place in the congested streets of Garibnagar, the home of Slumdog Millionaire's child stars Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail.
The kid’s relatives stayed up until 4:00AM to hear that the movie won eight Oscars.
Munni Qureshi, Rubina's mother, told the BBC: "I will go to the airport with a band of musicians and greet her. We are so happy for the children."
Some neighbors even fasted in hopes of award success and planned on celebrating with breakfast.
