Octavia Spencer On Golden Globe and SAG Nominations: 'It's Pretty Overwhelming'

Octavia Spencer has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Minny Jackson in ‘The Help’. It’s an honor that the actress is beyond excited about. Hollyscoop caught up with Spencer at the Haywire movie Premiere in Los Angeles to talk about her nomination and see how she’s preparing for red carpet season.

“I think I was more overwhelmed than excited,” Octavia tells Hollyscoop. “Because it’s a mile marker, you know? One of those things that you wont ever be able to forget.”

And the first person she called?

“My writing partner. Because my family had already left for work in Alabama so my writing partner lives in Tennessee, and she was at work so I called her.”

Not only does Octavia act, she’s also a budding screenwriter. In 2010, she wrote a ten-minute short titled, The Unforgiving Minute. The film was narrated by Academy Award nominee and The Help costar, Viola Davis.

If Spencer ends up winning the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, she tells us, “you’ll see me jumping up and down.”

“There’s so many wonderful actresses in the category, it would be presumptuous of me to think [I would win],” Octavia tells Hollyscoop.

So how is she getting ready to rock the red carpet?

“I literally am just letting someone else deal with all the things, I’m showing up and they’re seeing if the dresses fits…I’m trying to not stress out about that.”

And when it comes to her Glam Squad, Octavia’s needs are pretty simple.

“I just want them to buff me out a little bit.”
