Billy Crystal to Replace Eddie Murphy as Host of the Oscars
If I had a dollar for every time that Billy Crystal has hosted the Oscars…

Billy Crysal has hosted the Oscars 8 times in the past and you know what they say, 9th times the charm.

Don’t get me wrong, Bill Crystal is an excellent entertainer, but I guess I was just excited for some new blood. After Eddie Murphy dropped out of the hosting gig, there were petitions to get the Muppets to host the show. Yep, this is a real thing, and was very close to happening, technicalities aside. With miserable suggestions like having stuffed puppets host the Academy Awards, we might as well get Kris Humphries to host the show. Amiright?!

Regardless, Oscar veteran Billy Crystal will do the hosting duties this year, and we know this because he tweeted about it.

“Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions. Looking forward to the show,” tweets Crystal.

The Academy has yet to confirm, but a tweet is basically the same thing as a press release nowadays.

Crystal admitted this summer that he was actually trying to get another Oscar hosting gig, he was kind of campaigning himself if you will, but said maybe he lost his opportunity after doing it for so many years.

“It got to be too much after a while and the sameness in my life. That’s why I pulled back. And then when I thought I might want to do it again, they were on to other people. It’s always fun. It’s really hard, but maybe one or two more times? I don’t know. They know where I am,” reveals the actor.

This news comes off a complete Oscar ceremony change-up this week. Brett Ratner was to produce the ceremony but after some anti-gay slurs he made earlier this week he had to resign. He wrote to the Academy apologizing for the “hurtful and stupid things I said in a number of recent media appearances.”

And then because Ratner resigned, Eddie Murphy pulled out of the hosting gig because he and Ratner went into this thing together, so out of respect, Murphy couldn’t continue with the hosting position. Sucks for Murphy.

Murphy stated, “I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.”
